RP Suiter in Training (RPG Character design)
Okay, so my best friend is making an RPG using RPG Maker XP. This little project, though crude in both execution and humor, "Legend of the Random Quest" (the real title, you can tell it's gonna be such a serious game) is actually quite involved. It's mostly for practice before something more epic, but my buddy's driven enough that he's decided to tackle the thing from all angles.
Obviously, since I'm around, work for free/food/videogames, and have some mediocre skills, I was instantly drawn into the works of the project. Therefore, I have become my pal's: *TAKES DEEP BREATH* character/monster designer, illustrator, pixel artist, troubleshooter, playtester, co-map maker, music/voice acting specialist, and general creative consultant. *WHEW* Despite the amount of work involved, I'm glad to be a part of it. I like this kind of junk. :O3
Thus, we (along with another friend whose current contribution to the project consists of tossing out random ideas and reminding us that he's hungry) have become the foremost amateur game production outfit: ENDER TECH. Watch for a finalized version of the very offensive game in the (distant) future, and even greater works in (MUCH) after that. ;O3
ANYWAY, as per my duties, I was to draw a battle sprite for one of the main characters, Bear Fewkair, who is a guy in a bear suit. This was the result before shrinking it to a size the game can handle. *shrugs* It's okay.
Unfortunately, my friend and I didn't discuss minute details before I began, so rather than making a fierce-looking musclegut-ish guy something akin to a Morrowind character who'd been to Solstheim and gotten bear pelt armor, I instead drew a rather silly fursuiter fatty kid with an open-faced head, gleefully going out to battle evil with little more than a fuzzy outfit, a shiny stick, and a devious grin. Thus, this is NOT Bear Fewkair. This is Bear Kid. Or something like that.
But luckily, the crazed look on his face was apparently so priceless that my best friend decided Bear Kid must be put into the game anyway. God only knows in what fashion... XO3 Bear Fewkair in all his homebrew JRPG-ripoff glory to come soon... ish.
And before I forget, some inspiration derived from
jakegr and his work. Great artist, and seemingly a cool guy. Though I wouldn't quite know, I haven't actually talked to him. *shrugs* You decide.
