If they handed out an award for most unusual vehicle at the show, this 1990 Nissan Pao would have been in the running. The Pao was built for three model years, 1989-1991, and originally marketed only in Japan. So it was a real treat to find this one at a car show in the United States.

How cool that someone brought it to the show! I couldn't help but be drawn to the characters on the number plate. When you read it right to left, it shows the town in which the car was first registered, which turns out to be Tatsuno, in Nagano Prefecture. The number too is interesting. It indicates that the car is a special purpose vehicle. :)
Thank you for sharing your fantastic work, as always! And great to see a Tom Jones lyric! ^__^

JDM Nissan made a number of "retro" and/or "funky" styled cars in the 90's
The Nissan Pao was one of what became known as Nissan "Pike cars" due to their origins at the Nissan Pike factory.
The other Pike cars were:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_S-Cargo
We see some of them in Australia as they were often grey imports from Japan.
They were in competition at the time with some funky looking cars from Autozam (Mazda marque)

Daihatsu and Subaru also had their funky kei class models :3
