Originating from Arab mythology and taken back in Islam, jinns are creatures often invisible, often bad but sometimes good, able to influence minds (sometimes as a muse) and manifesting under any shape. The Koran want them to have been created by God like men and angels, and as such have their own religions (some have adopted men's), leave in peoples and tribes, have complex emotions similar to ours and are able of choices and to change, as the bad jinn who followed around the Prophet to corrupt him but ended up convert himself and become good. In modern medias, we tend to summarize them to imposing genies imprisonned in objects by powerful persons and granting wishes hoping for their freedom in exchange
