Season 3: Episode 1: Blue Sunshine
“…And today will be sunny, with a fifteen percent chance of rain. The high is ninety-four degrees, and the low is seventy-seven degrees. That’s the weather for you. Now back to you, Stacy…”
Jenga bit his lip. Evan had the TV on in the living area. Seph was sitting with him. Drez and Jen were in the kitchen, making lunch.
Five weeks since Evan’s injury, and the panther was up and well again. He had a bit of a limp, and his left hand still hurt occasionally, but otherwise, he was perfectly fine.
“Beach day!” Jenga suddenly whirled to stand so he faced them all. The other three blinked. “Come on! It’s a great day today, and none of us have any plans. Let’s hit the beach!”
Evan and Seph glanced at each other, then shrugged. Evan answered for them both. “Sure. Why not?”
Jenga looked at Drez. The fox grinned. “How could I say no to you, wolfy?” He moved to kiss Jenga’s forehead. “Let’s go get our suits on.”
The two vanished to Drez’s room; Jenga barely used his anymore. Seph got up, holding a hand out to Evan. The panther took it graciously, groaning slightly as he got up. He may be healing well, but he was still healing, after all. The two headed to their rooms.
A few minutes later, Evan left his room, dressed in a tee shirt and a pair of shorts. He had his sketchpad under his arm. Seph was dressed in a pair of blue water shorts, shirtless. The panther grinned at him, lightly blushing. Jenga and Drezda were almost identical, wearing a white tee shirt and red shorts.
Jenga looked Evan over. “Not going to swim?”
“Oh, I might.” Evan waved him down, and the wolf closed his mouth. Evan looped his arm through Seph’s, grinning at the dragon. Seph chuckled to himself.
Drez looked at the two briefly. I’ll never understand those two, he thought. Shrugging, he reached for the door, pulling it open.
The motley quartet paraded down the streets, chatting amiably. They saw very few people, but made sure to stay on the main roads; nobody wanted to repeat what had happened five weeks ago.
Evan looked down at Seph. The dragon glanced back up, nodding knowingly. He squeezed Evan’s arm tightly.
At that moment, Evan could swear the dragon was glowing, like the sun. So precious to his heart, Evan knew he would rather die than lose this sun, this blue sun. He smiled widely at Seph. He leaned down and kissed him, not caring about anyone else. He had the rest of his life to deal with them. Right now, all he needed was this little ray of sunshine.
