The cliet wanted an image that featured Shadow the Hedgehog and his Pony OC Azure Light, squaring off in a little bit of a drinking contest with none other than Queen Chrysalis enjoying the show. I was free to choose my own setting, so I ended up placing it in the VIP area of the glamorous “Club Rouge”. (W00T! Sonic Battle FTW!) I’m sure the giant neon sign gave that away though… or maybe it was the labeled Televisions? How about the engraved booze rack? Surely it couldn’t have been the locales moniker projected onto the floor could it? That bat sure knows how to brand doesn’t she. ^^

This buyer is one of the first people to commission one of these higher level orders from me and I always like to reward such behavior. As a result, I added several characters without charge, to help populate the image. Rouge the Bat, Berry Punch, Nack/Fang the Weasel/Sniper and Cheerilee all make appearances here under that banner.

Character interaction with both the environment and various objects can be difficult to draw at times, but it adds an air of realism to any image. Little touches such as Shadow leaning back in his booth, Chrysalis holding her glass or Nack shifting his weight to the counter-top make this image all the more believable. I got to play with a good amount of special effects with this image too, and that is always nice. I slightly saturated the image to give it a darker, somber tone, but the neon remains unaffected, to give it more pop. The end result is a dark room, with strong accent lighting, just like a real nightclub.

I also worked a few jokes into this image as well, so feel free to scan over the image to find them all. The funnies range from Berry’s absurd tolerance for alcohol, to some comedic-ally placed rings and even a bunch of themed drinks on the shelf that many of you may find amusing.

It took a good amount of time and elbow grease to get this one done. I am sure my wrists are cursing my very name as the scream from the fiery pits of Tartarus. Poor joints… they never stood a chance. I have a whole bucket of ice with my name on it waiting for me after this one. Once again fate seemed to conspire against me as snow and other obstacles constantly prevented me from working on this pic. No biggie though, just had to power through it.
