fanart from the 2002 anime version of Ozamu Tezuka´s manga "Hinotori, the Phönyx" - Chapter of the Sun
Inugami, once named Harima, was captured by enemy troops during a period of war in his homecountry of Wa. In the anime Harima was cursed to wear a wolf´s head until he dies (in the manga his head and neck was skinned and replaced with a wolf head and fur that somehow grew together... not really tasty...)
In this scenario, Inugami is arrested by the men of commander Karakuni Ikinofubito, who was loyal to the new emperor of Japan who wanted to spread Bhuddism with force.
Inugami accepted the arrest, because he and his village refused to take over the new religion and wanted to stay with the ancient nature spirit religion of their ancestors.
Commander Karakuni although figured out somehow that Inugami only was willing to be arrested to get somehow an opportunity to talk with the emperor to forget his plans to spread the new religion with force.
Both respected each other very much as warriors and ended op on opposite sides of two armies in the final battle

Ozamu Tezuka´s mangas often have tragic or let´s say biddersweet endings. For Hinotori was hiw work of a lifetime and still he couldn´t finish ist, because he died before he could. Chapter of the Sun was the last chapter he could finish.

I see, it's sad to hear... it's horrible for him to disapear without have finish his manga :(... well sadly it is thing than happen and we can't do nothing about it.. the once we can do is continue to share these story with people for they can continue to exist even after they creator . Somewhere you give to Tezuka an homage to hiw story so thanks for that eternal ^^. Hope you'll make us discover other story in futur with your art.
Commander Karakuni: You have a strange way of thinking Inugami, though I wonder if that's wolf's head you're cursed to wear. Such a thing would leave it's mark on any man.
Inugami: Indeed, though it could be worse, if I'd say had all the skin flayed from my head and neck and the skin of wolf placed over and somehow it had fused together to form this beast's head I now where.
