Many religions, like most enduring Meme Complexes, are surprisingly good at adapting and evolving to societal changes. The religions that don't, and remain entrenched in their antiquated views, tend to wither and fade as they become increasingly isolationist, which condemns those Meme Complexes to remain evolutionary dead ends, even if they endure for a long time.

While Karno is definitely taking a big jab at the Catholic Church here, the Church itself has been very, very good at adapting to societal changes over the centuries, even if it's been slowly and awkwardly.

Like humans foxes do not have to eat meat all of the time so it is not that big a handicap. Felines and mustilids (ferrets, otters, badgers, etc.) have it hard as they are obligate carnivores.

the church must be the government to be stronger able to opress things. Good thing in many civilized countries there is a space between government and church. What can happen if both are the same you are still able to see in modern times. Oh, and didn't told them anyone that burning books so openly is a crime for wasting ressources? You can make toilet paper out of those after all. Think of all the Shades of Grey or Twilight books. LOTS of toilet paper. Read and direct useage. >:)

Our Host's choice of churchish costume is no accident. Co-opting challenging ideologies into itself is what the Roman Empire was rather skilled at, and a thing the Roman Catholic church continues to do. it contributes to its longevity.
