The orgin of the gorgon sisters Euryale, Stheno and Medusa changes from one version to another. Daughters of Typhon and Echidna, daughters of Ceto and Phorcys, humans changed by Athena to punish Medusa after a having dared letting herself raped in her temple by Poseidon which will give birth to Pegasus and Chrysaor (goddess of wisdom uh ?)... in every case they remain creatures turning all of those crossing their eyes into statues, provided with snakes as hair, a hanging tongue, boar tusks, gold wings and bronze hands living alone on a vegetationless island. Only Medusa was mortal, and thus was beheaded by Perseus ; her eyes still working, her head was fastened to Athena's shield, and her blood falling down the sea froze and colored in red the seaweed, becoming coral.
