In a cutaway, Tina demonstrates why she loves platform shoes so much. The narration actually explains more than the desc, but suffice to say that the popular "Brand T" boot she's holding, which incidentally is shorter than a high-top sneaker) is only waterproof to about the 5" level (I measured a pair I have), which is less than the slush puddles you can encounter in an urban snowstorm, hence the scene here.
Yes, that's an actual slush puddle I photographed in January as a texture for this comic. The brick wall came later on the spur-of-the-moment idea while doing the color.

Toughest part of the bg was making the wet snow in the street look slushier than the stuff piled on the sidewalks. I thought the scrape marks where snow was pushed into the snowbanks was a nice touch.
Peering back at the original lineart, I see that the buildings in the backdrop behind the brick wall were drawn digitally with a straight-line tool, as I didn't originally include them in the pencils/inks.

I saw a teenage girl do that around about the time I shot that slushpuddle pic. She was wearing the same style boot in the pic, but untied. When she stepped in the puddle (headed toward the curb), one boot stuck in the slush , but her momentum carried her forward causing her to step in the slush with her sock. Her reaction was, shall we say, understated :)
