Just because Alex wasn't able to control his body for much longer, didn't mean he couldn't feel a lot of the changes...didn't hurt, but it still felt really weird, especially when his bone structure and face drastically changed and elongated into a snout complete with horn! More over, his ears were visibly disappearing and changing, a V-crest shaped set of horns, it was all happening way too fast for him to mentally keep up. That made it all the easier for Grei to indeed "take the wheel" as everything human was under wraps; his headphone materializing where they should be, everything. Opening the eyes, G took only seconds to adjust to the world around'em....
