I finished SU a few weeks back, and wanted to give it a small tribute. easily one of my fave shows of all time, and the last few episodes in particular hit a very deep, tender spot in me. I put a lot of thought into what I wanted to convey in a tribute and how, and I came up with this p simple concept. there’s a lot I could say here, but I’ll just leave it + the title to speak for itself in whatever way y’all may interpret it

I’ve wanted to try mimicking the SU background style for quite a while now, and this gave me an excuse to try my hand. I always struggle w/ bgs, and the SU bgs are so simple and elegant, I thought it would be a good place to start. as for Rose’s moss flowers, I referenced Portulaca grandiflora, AKA “Rose Moss” (but not actually moss b/c moss doesn’t flower..). I’m usually a bit more strict in correctly referencing a particular species, but I figured we don’t REALLY know if the moss is ACTUALLY moss, or alternatively if it IS moss, exactly how much of its anatomy was changed by Rose’s influence. some interesting theories I considered while drawing this:

1) the moss is a corrupted gem (either shattered or a group of the same kind of gem). every corrupted gem so far has been animalistic, but I don’t think that necessarily excludes botanical possibilities

2) the moss is a failed experiment by Rose to try to revive a corrupted gem by using Earth organics like a kind of weird glue

3) Rose stepped on the moss once when she first visited Earth and felt bad and cried on it, and turned it into the Pink-influenced moss we see today a la Lion and Lars
