With the Apple i-Jihad in full swing I couldn't help but do this...
Since people have asked, on the left is the "1984" Macintosh commercial you can see here.
What I'm alluding to here is that Apple has become their own vilified "Big Brother".

lol it totally is, no doubt in that whatsoever, they rule the iWorld lol.. However they also reflect in the photo, ad vs. rl now, they have an extremely large and devoted following (I of course being one of them)- which has let them become what they are and will continue to grow into the future!. I look forward to seeing what other types of products they can think up and the crazy ways it can all be linked together <3
and weren't able to do it. Macintosh was clearly superior to DOS and Windows 1.0-3.x, but once Windows 95 came out their chance to take over the computer market disappeared. Windows 95 wasn't perfect, and wasn't nearly as good as the contemporary Macs, but pretty much gave Intel/PC users a fully integrated GUI (like Mac has) while still allowing a DOS interface (which was still needed at the time for hardware and migration issues).
I think the big problem Macintosh had in that period (1984-1995) were their price (which has always been so high as to price themselves out of most serious competitions) and the fact that they used Apple proprietary connectors for everything (it's hard to convert an office from DOS to Mac when none of your peripherals will connect). It also didn't help that IT departments simply didn't (and some still don't) like GUIs.

They may not have conquered the market for businessy type stuff, however the professional art world revolves around Apple, (I'm a professional photographer) *insert standard mac fangirl spiel here lol, I know every Mac user says it, but it's because it's true* their products are innovative, they tend to get things right the first time, they just work, and not to mention they take care to design things beautifully visually, from the actual design from the computer itself to how it operates (visual *and* functionality of the OS) .. and mustn't forget there are barely any viruses for MacOS vs windows, I've never owned any additional security software for any of my macs than what comes with the OS, unlike when I had my windows computer for those couple of months I had more problems with it even WITH 3 security apps (norton 360 and a couple other anti spyware things :S ) /macfag rant.
Your link to 1984, did however bring me back to the wonderful memories I have as a kid using my Colour Classic <3 teehee X3 So, thank you for that :P

Well Apple will tell you to get an anti-virus and I think Windows 8 will have Microsoft Security Essentials built-in, which is the Microsoft branded anti-virus (which actually isn't too terrible and about as good as any third party version).
The thing about Windows these days is assuming you get it pre-configured, which most users do, it "just works" too. Mind you I can go on for a while about how it could be significantly improved (at least driver support) but Microsoft hasn't taken that leap (yet). (Mostly it would be having Microsoft push out all drivers through their own update system, rather than forcing users to find and install them manually. They're close to it already, but still don't support weird configurations like laptop sound cards nor stay even remotely up to date for some key drivers like graphics.)
Personally I prefer Linux, but I tend to keep going back to Windows simply because it can do what I want when I want it to, rather than a ton of configuring with Linux. The good thing with Linux are there's no viruses "in the wild" for Linux, whereas they're known to exist for Mac.

You mean Microsoft do you remember the court case in Europe a few years back? Can the pot call the kettle black? Microsoft people don't like being superseded or being told they are no longer top dog. However let us keep in mind that the enmity between the two giants did not occur until Mr. Jobs was ousted from Apple and when he came back Microsoft helped save the company. Microsoft is on a down turn ever since Mr Gates retired from the helm. Google is the new emerging power. Nowlets see if they play nice with either company.
I'm running a Linux machine right now, what do you mean "Microsoft people"?
Apple has worse vendor-lock in than Microsoft ever been accused of, releases software that is so bloated and buggy that it's embarrassing, charges a minimum of a 150% mark-up on below spec parts and is currently biting the hand that feeds them. (If Adobe said "That's it! No more Mac products, period. Across the board, nothing, no Photoshop, nothing" the Mac platform would die within a few years.)

Everything about the movie and the book was just a little off. The theory Orwell had was that a single person or group of people would gain access to everyone's most intimate iformation - hence "Thought Police". What actually happened was that a very large number of people started keeping tabs on eachother, in stead of just one BB. Before long, it was seen as the culturally acceptible thing to do, and today, people may pay hundreds to have their own 24/7 telescreen streaming live video to Google webcams. For something more accurate, Brave New World.
P.S. I convinced my friend this was a funny movie. She watched it, and a week later was sent to the mental ward for severe depression. Next I should have her watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

You complete, totally and utterly missed the point...
During the Superbowl in 1984 Apple ran one of the most famous ads in the history of advertising called "1984." It was only run twice (the other time was a tiny station in Idaho and only to allow it to be entered into advertising contests) and has since entered advertising text books. It alluded IBM was "Big Brother" and that because of Macintosh "1984 won't be like Nineteen Eighty-Four."
The point of this picture is that the message being sent has been completely reversed in recent years. IBM (and Microsoft who's PC-DOS was synonymous with IBM back then) has begun embracing actual ISO standards and interoperability in recent years while Apple has been increasingly been creating a "garden of pure ideology" (quote from the commercial) with iOS and how Mac users put with with the idiosyncrasies of Apple and Steve Jobs about release cycles, pricing, technology used, etc.
