I'm taking the inktober challenge this year, 2019! For me the inktober will be a prompt list of experiment doodles for me. My goal? Only use values. Grayscale. Black and whites. No colors at all. This is the only rule for my personal journey this inktober~ As you all might know, I'm quite a colorful-sparkle-overload. So this is something I hope with enough elbow grease will help me creatively expand while also having a lot of fun! The biggest goal out of this journey? HAVE FUN. THIS IS FOR FUN. No time limits, no hard rules (except for no colors), just have fun. c;
What do we say? Never be afraid to draw badly!
Inktober 2019 - Freeze
I had a few ideas bumping around for this prompt. But the one that kept sticking it's neck out the longest had to be one of my adopted pony oc's! He is a professor at the Weather Academy in Cloverly. He helps teach rangers and general public about severe weather and how to survive it.
Professor Caldwell has always been a pretty standoffish unicorn. The very air around him seems to be chilled. Those piercing red eyes can quiet an entire classroom when he glares out over his class. He seems to be very well respected in Cloverly even if he's not so friendly.
One of the students mentioned they saw the professor engaging with a huge shadow beast. They didn't get a good look though. No one really believes in the rumor, how could you hide a enormous beast on the school grounds?
The reality of the situation, the Professor loves to research old world knowledge. Especially those versed in magic of any sort. On one of his journey's to learn more about old world magic, he met a mundi felidae. Mundi Felidae, or in plain language "cosmic cats", have been slipping in and out of the world's existence for as long as anyone can remember. In old texts it mentions that they can cross dimensions and literally leave out existence once they tire of it. Or they will find places to hide inside of the space of living things.
Professor had the rare chance to meet one. It wasn't a chance he would pass up. Not much is known about these genie like felines. Their excess of power usually soaking the space around them. Caldwell offers himself up as an extension of the beast. To allow the great creature to see different places and engage in ponyfolk's lives. It took a bit of convincing, but the Professor did not leave empty hoofed.
The great arctic mundi felidae continues to sleep within the inner-space of Professor Caldwell. So that he may call upon the creature or harness it's power for his own uses. The average day to day lives are not so different. Since returning from his expedition, ponyfolk of Cloverly notice the Professor has become a lot more stoic. Harder to reach. Sometimes ponies wonder if he's talking to himself?
The mundi felidae gives him information and power. Oddly it interacts with it's host quite often. Much like you would see a witch or wizard with their familiar. However there is a terrible price to pay for this partnership. A requirement that would horrify most of the ponyfolk who hear of it. The beast requires it's pound of flesh, once the contract has come to an end. Once the life span of Professor Caldwell is over, the creature gets to devour his flesh/body.
The mundi felidae should have a distinctive name but I'm not sure what to call them yet. They are based on a mix of bears, bobcats/lynxs, and saber tooth cats. Professor finds the huge beast cast frozen in a beautiful glacier cave that only recently opened back up again. (hence him traveling to see it!)
While resting inside of the Professor's body and consciousness, the air around him seems sharp and cold to others. He wields and immense amount of power through magic, like having a super charger attached to his "horns". An odd growth of a second horn happened once the cat and the unicorn melded together. Obviously his best strength is typically cold weather storms or ice. But with the immediate plug of the mundi felidae inside of him, he can channel that power into any particular direction.
Luckily the Professor is not a show off and actually quite secretive. Students and coworkers try to talk to him, but he'll just nod, maybe offer a chilling empty smile, and continue on his way without answering anything.
He holds magnificent power, but no pony truly knows it. Yet.
At this time no other pony or cloverly resident know much about mundi felidae, they don't even know they exist usually.
