Season 3: Prologue: Recuperating
“You sure you don’t need anything, hon?”
Evan flashed Seph a gleaming smile. He lay on the couch, injured foot on one of the armrests. “I’m fine, Seph. Really.”
The dragon seemed to bite his lip. Evan chuckled mentally. Seph was always overbearing, but the panther didn’t mind. It simply meant he was waited on hand-and-foot when he couldn’t do anything.
He sensed Seph’s overwhelming urge to help after the dragon had stood there for a few moments, biting his lip. Evan sighed gently to himself. There were few things he wouldn’t do for Seph, and this definitely wasn’t among those few. He looked at the dragon. “Well, I could use a hug…”
He grinned as Seph’s face lit up and he practically bounded over to hug him. He chuckled as he wrapped his good arm around the dragon, squeezing him tightly. The dragon nuzzled his head into Evan’s warm fur, a smile on his face. This was how they were happy. Just, this. Let Jenga and Drezda have at teach others’ assholes - hell, they were even going at it right then - Evan and Seph needed nothing more than this. A hug, a kiss, a gentle touch.
After a while, Evan let go. It was nearly seven. Seph needed to get ready for work. Reluctantly, the dragon let go, smiling. He went to his room to get dressed.
Evan lay back, a relaxed smile on his face. Only three weeks into his recovery. Just three more before he had to be back to work. The inactivity was killing him, but it had been made a bit better. Seph had carried the dumbbells from his room, to the couch. He could sit and do curls.
Then there was the TV. It had never been his favorite choice, but now it loomed across the room at all times, dark and foreboding. He still hadn’t turned it on in all three weeks.
Seph had bought him a sketchpad. Evan doubted the dragon truly knew how great a gift he had gotten him. Evan was constantly sketching, constantly drawing. The window was rarely covered, and he had a good view of the outside. He drew the plants on the balcony, the few trees that stood nearby, even a few birds, on the occasion that they stopped in the trees or at the plants.
He smiled gently to himself. Jenga had gotten him a massive stack of books. Evan didn’t think he’d finish them in six years, much less six weeks. Nonetheless, he tried. Most of them were fantasy; he set those aside. He grabbed immediately for the sci-fi books, dismaying at their small number.
Drez had contributed his part, getting him a notepad, of the like he always bought for Jenga, back when the wolf had lived in his house.
That brought a curious thought to Evan’s mind. The apartment they lived in was owned by Drez’s family. So really, Jenga was still living in Drez’s house. Evan chuckled at this fact.
Seph closed his door, interrupting Evan’s train of thought. He smiled when he saw the panther laying back, and went to kiss him. Evan returned the light kiss, and smiled as the dragon left, waving over his shoulder.
Evan let his head rest against a pillow. He smiled to himself.
Maybe resting for a bit wasn’t so bad, after all.
