Onyx came into the recent apprenticeship to a Necromancer named Sulfer. Under normal circumstances, Sulfer would have perceived Onyx's accidental intrusion into his lair as a threat and indeed that was the case as most people tend to have a rather negative view. The two clashed for a while but neither being able to get and advantage over the other.

After some rather intense sparring which caused quite a bit of collateral damage to Sulfer's lair, the two struck a conversation. Onyx had no intention of fighting and only did so when his own life came under danger when Sulfer lashed out at him. He was looking for an artifact that came into Sulfer's possession and was using it for his Necromancy experiments. The artifact in question was rather impotent, as it was not designed for Necromancy, so Sulfer had discarded it as useless.

Onyx had no interest in Necromancy but was intrigued by Sulfer's power in Blood magic and wondered if he could impart some knowledge to him. After mulling it over for a bit, Sulfer accepted Onyx's request towards an apprenticeship but made it very clear to him that he was dabbling in dangerous magic and should something go wrong, Sulfer would claim Onyx's corpse for his Necromancy experiments.

The two maintained a working, if a bit tense, relationship as both constantly kept an eye on the other should either decide to turn on one another. Sulfer also heavily disapproved of Onyx's rather regal robes, seeing them as impractical , and made a new set that mirrored Sulfer's own attire in addition to modifying his sword to fit the new look.

Onyx has also proven to be quite able and competent in assisting Sulfer, be it acquisition of ingredients, fighting off the occasional adventurer seeking to kill him and other...."needs"
