Im putting this up here as an example, mostly. And, well, i can do a con report here as well, I suppose... But mostly, as the example. The kinds of costs included in going to a fur con, and while you may be able to cut some things out, I think this is a fairly good estimate.
As for the con itself, I mostly enjoyed it. Since I know so few people, and I went with a friend that knows even fewer, things werent exactly busy for us. For the first day we were there, friday, there was a loooot of just wandering aimlessly, until the gryphon panel at least. Gryphon panel was great!
That was the thing for us, the panels we were interested in and went to were, for the most part, really cool. The gryphon panel, the tips in Photoshop, the dragon, and ADP, and the adult anatomy. We were at the avian panel too, but that kind of... well, sucked.
I met a few folks at the gryphon panel, and I was verrry happy with the way it went! I learned stuff about photoshop layers and masks and whatnot. But the dragon panel had me hiiighly amused when they spoke of how gryphons could best dragons in aerial combat. X> Then again, the whole dragon panel was energetic, exciting, and busy. Great panelists for it will do that! The avian panel, on the other hand, had only about 10 people show up, and no leader, no panelist. It was destined to fail... we all came in, sat down, and waited in confusion for 15 minutes before someone stood up and said 'okay, no panelist, lets all introduce ourselves, and then just kinda... mingle.' yeah, right... so introductions, few people even seemed interested that I was a falconer, and it was... blah.
And, well, the ADP is the ADP. room was full, packed, people standing in every spare inch, and then came the awesome porn from great artists, and a few tinges of envy and stuff. ;> But also a lot of motivation, because I now have a goal to get into that panel with my own work, eventually!
People kept saying 'dont forget to eat!' But honestly... eating was the most fun I had, just about! I looked forward to each meal time, because it was a chance to hang out with friends I did have there, eat, and be merry and stuff! There were a hundred restaurants about, enough to accomdate the nearly 2800 furs that were at the con without anything being too crowded or busy.
We never went to any room parties. On Friday night we did go to the party floor, but there wasnt really anything of interest... and the hotel had some strange rules regarding parties, afaik. Though, I did find it hilarious there was a posting on one of the poster-boards for a 'snuff party. From 6pm - whenever. Won't last long!' X>
All in all, was it worth it? Probly. Its expensive, no doubt there. But it was my first con, it was pretty cool, I met a couple people even when I didnt know anyone there! And for the next one I may go to I'll have a better idea of what to expect and what to do.
My roommates were absolutely fantastic, though. Friendly, fun, and there were no problems about bringing in crazies or making loud noises at horrible hours or anything. No messes, nothing. Couldnt have asked for better!

That's actually fairly accurate as far as cons go. In my case, there's just things like ferry fees and plane tickets I'd not need, an I only pay parking once, since I always drive/ride to a con. if it takes a plane, I don't do it.. I HATE flying. So I guess no baggage check either. Commissions I usually keep to 40-80, so about the same. An there's several meals on there I'd not put that much expense into. So.. a single gon depending on travel distance is probably about 550-575 a shot. Still painful.. an that's assuming I can split the room 4+ ways. Less an the cost goes up. :( How in the heck did I manage to afford these things??
Heh heh, there was someone actually scheduled to put it on? X>
Two people in the cab. The shuttles available were $26 one way to the airport, but the cab was only $10... Go figure. Besides, youd think a hotel like the Fairmont would have its own courtesy shuttle service to the airport...
But yes, more and more and more gryphons! Was really cool to actually meet you in person there! ^v^
