Ardal may be outwardly brutish, unrepentant and incorrigible, but even he has a soft side to him. As the years went by and his closest and oldest companions died or disappeared one by one, Malena was by his side through most of it. Risen from her former place as a mere slave, she came to fill a special place in his heart as she was often there to offer whatever comforts or pleasures she could offer to him. She had given so much to him, and now and then he felt the need to give something back to his most faithful companion.
