This is another painting I sold to a fan back in my home town actually. I worked this one to death. I actually liked painting it so much I almost didn't want to sell it & would have preferred to keep working on it. But he liked very much the way it was.
I like painting tall rectangular buildings & giving them windows that are suggestive to goofy looking faces for some reason. I suppose the lad in "edge" lives in this city. Or perhaps one like it. The painting is quite large. The slanted city behind the main city is meant to suggest that this is a very strange place to live where the laws of physics are similar to our own, but not quite the same.
The building at the far right I guess is meant to suggest that while it may appear deary on the surface the citizens are actually quite happy & it is a fun place to live. The building to left is meant to be very utilitarian looking and is a nod to the two pillars. One of severity and the other of mercy, the contrast of work and play.
I've been working on many of these paintings for quite some time and many of them are actually starting to see completion. I tend to work my paintings to death. I don't like the idea of just throwing something together & calling it a day. I see much shitty art being reffered to as "Modern" when really it just looks like some one trying to pass off make laziness as legitimate art.
I want the viewer to be able to see that these are pieces that a lot of time and energy went into.
I want my paintings to give the viewer something to look at and ponder over. They're meant to be complex and fun & maybe a tad mysterious. I guess I'm posting this now because I've had people tell me it actually looks quite horrifying.
While this was not the intent, I figured it would be a good painting for October.
These paintings are a skosh more detailed in person as I captured them a with basic resolution camera on a moderately priced laptop.
