So I've been super-busy for many reasons, but the most interesting one is...we adopted a shelter dog a few weeks back.
Meet Harper, a two+ yo husky mix (we strongly suspect Northern Inuit, which isn't really an official breed, but he ticks many of the boxes). He's good with people, not very socialized with dogs yet (esp small ones). A sweetheart, but a bit willful. Highly expressive eyebrows. Definitely smart enough to be a troublemaker. And VERY fluffy.
Posting this now because yesterday we finally got to the point where we were watching Disenchantment with him curled up between us, gently kneading my lap with his paws as he gnawed on his new chew toy. It finally felt like he was accepting being part of the family, rather than just having us as caretakers. We've got a ways to go with training, but I was thrilled at how comfy and domestic it felt--it's my first pet, y'all, goldfish excepted. Teh hubby meanwhile has a lot of experience with dogs and is, unfortunately for him, busy being the bad guy teacher role
This was, for obvious reasons, drawn without reference, since I have no idea how we'd manage to get him to pose for this. I think I drew him too large, but I have no photos of him + us. He does have huge paws, though. Kept some space between our mouths so we're nuzzling, since appearing to make out in front of the dog would just be weird.
You know someone's a furry artist when they put effort into making their portraits resemble real life, and then the dog still looks like he was pulled from a Balto film.
So. Yeah. This isn't the only reason you're not hearing much from me right now, but it's definitely the fluffiest.

So far we're really happy with him. Many cuddles XD
Unfortunately he's a bit older than a pup so I think training is being a bit more challenging for teh hubby, but so far he's learning commands, it's a matter of him wanting to do them And I haven't been to FC in three years but now that you mention it, I do wonder what it'd be like taking him to a furry con.
Thanks very much!

Good to hear you finally got a pet. Having one is extremely rewarding. I don't know what I'd do without mine.
From what I understand, being willful is a common trait for huskies. And it's a good think you have Dev around to train him, those big paws mean he's probably going to be a big dog.

Floofy kitty! Yeah, I'm glad we finally took the leap.
Oh yes, he has a lot of textbook huskyisms, including the athletic restlessness and penchant for chewing/digging.
We're unsure if the shelter was right about his age or not. He doesn't seem to be growing more, I think those are just his built-in snowshoes...

Yes, huskies are *beautiful* dogs! It doesn't surprise me in the least bit that Harper gets the attention he does; I'll bet he's a stud at the dog-park (not that I know whether you guys go to any dog parks). Heh, and I've noticed with a few dog-owners that they seem to be just as flattered if you compliment their dog, as if they themselves have been complimented. xD
But that's cool, glad things seem to be going well, and you're welcome! D'awww, all the fluffles and snuffles!
