An old road near Mill End and the river Thames, photo taken in April. Wish if this area was actually this calm like this image may suggest. The river is behind me, this road leads to the gate of some disused area, so the unusual serenity.

If you think about apocalyptic scenes, this could happen even after a year, only an autumn's litter piling up. The gate, the area behind, and the overall state of the concrete suggested probably some 3-5 years of disuse as far as I remember, although maybe more. The road could have seen occasional usage for keeping the fence on the right tidy, to have this impression, I think at least some maintenance was necessary in the past three years on this side (otherwise saplings and bushes would appear).
I would say the best is to check the age of trees in areas which certainly would be kept clean normally, and there is nothing really impeding growth. In many areas of an abandoned city, you would see such young forests.

Yes, those are road markings, it is a two-lane road, making the scene even more interesting. However what primarily wears down road markings is traffic. If you have no traffic, they might last for decades, depending on other sources of erosion. The material covering the road is detritus, probably indeed deposited by water during periods of high rainfall, but there are no clearly apparent marks of flow.
