There’s a movie and book?

Mustard's video on the SR-71 blackbird explains about this reconnaissance aircraft spying on the soviet union border back then. As it was the fastest man air breathing jet made. Before the Mig was improvised and outsmarted the blackbird.

ProTip on the movie: watch the film until Gant's given his assignment then, unless you've got a thing for Cold War politics/drama, you can skip to literally half way through the movie (1hr5min, as he's infiltrating the base, right before he steals the plane) and you will miss nothing you can't guess at. Once he's in the cockpit the real action of the film begins.

An update would actually be quite awesome. Watching the MIG-31 flight/dogfight you can really see how they "worked" the models (lots of needless pitch and roll) to give the impression of flight (don't even get me started on the optical compositing - it just hurts). I'd be very disappointed if they altered the MIG model (a nod to the original film is always a plus) but the cockpit and overall plot would benefit from an updating (SO much has changed, technologically and politically). The overall premise still works but the nuances have changed.

*Blip on the forward-scanning radar

A black Bell corporate helicopter with a white underbody clears a distant ridge. Without warning chainguns deploy from either side of the aircraft and a missile pod drops out of the bottom of the fuselage. The MIG and SR peel off hard from their race as targeting radar starts painting them. Two AIM-95 Agile missiles launch from the pod and streak towards the MIG as the helo banks to track the Russian plane. . .
