I finally finished rigging my character (twice, because I figured out how to mirror stuff after doing it once. >P ) and I put her into a pose. At the request of someone off SL I included all the ugly edge lines. Or at least as many as Blender would let me show. Some of them are drawn, but are counted by the renderer as being under the face, so they don't show up for some reason.
This pose is kind of old, I made it for another model I made in my video game design course, but alas I never got to use it because I was too busy to get the character working in a 3d engine. Well, now I get to do it, and this model's better. >)

Neither, though I suppose technically cylinder modeling is close enough to box modeling. I was taught to model from a simple square, extruding edges to make a loop for the main body, and then mirror, extrude sideways, and seal up the sides. It works well, but it's not as fast as the cylinder/box method.
There's also the coat hanger method for the head, which I employed for this model. It's fairly simple, you take the neck of your model, extrude it up and around the shape of the head until it looks like a coat hanger hook. Delete the inside and side faces, extrude the edges out a couple times, and join them together to make the side of the head. It then becomes rather simple to cut a face out of the front of the coat hanger, and you've got the back of the head minimalistic as required.
