I've been working on this forever and it's finally done. XD My first fursuit partial evar...Merygryph! I'm pretty pleased with it. :P I owe a lot to the folks at the lj fursuit comm for their invaluable advice, it never would have come out this good without their suggestions.
Features a moving jaw, follow-me eyes, scaled/clawed gloves, optional sleeves, wings, li'l pufftail, and feetpaws. High five!
I'll be wearing this at Furry Fiesta and AC so um, if you see me feel free to say hi or whatever. :p

I cut 3 different styles of feathers out of paper, made the feather shaft on both sides with a strip of foam, painted them, used a razor blade to cut the vanes in them, attached them to a foam board base, made straps so I could wear it, and furred the top and sides. Phew!!
I'm glad you like it <3 They took a looong time XD

I'm all for hugs! :D I'm so glad you love gryphs; what a coincidence, I do too! Like the universe couldn't tell haha. I'm really really happy to hear you say it doesn't look derpy, that was my biggest fear going into making the costume was making it look creepy or derpy. Thanks! <33
I saw this lil one over on Fursuit LJ. :)
It's a really great suit, with a good shaping job, and yes I can tell under all that fluff. :p
I agree with the others that it would probably look even better with a bit of clipping, but believe I know how scary it is. What I do when I'm nervous is I start very very lightly with scissors. It's possible to make a smooth job with scissors, it just takes forever. But if you're really scared of clipping too much, I personally find it's less scary to go very very slowly with scissors. Specially because you take it so slow. If you're careful to really just clip tiny length of fur at a time, it might give you more control than a clipper would if you're "untrained".
But hey, your call on this. Maybe you'd rather wait, make a few other suits, practice clipping on them, THEN come back to this one. ;)

For both the beak and the gloves, I painted them a base coat of dark purple acrylic. I then took some metallic copper spray paint and gently sprayed them, till I got a nice gradient effect. Then I covered in two coats of spray paint clear coat. Voila! 8D I really like the way they look. <3

Thank you!
Thank you!
Yup, but thats not til October.
And I have a big event in Arizona the week prior to Furry Fiesta.
Whoops...FF...and FF....Fur Fright in Connecticut and Furry Fiesta in Dallas...Its Fur Fright I have a table at.
Wouldn't mind doing Texas, but lack a table, and room. Plus would be neat to meet the kitty!!

I know I will be approximately the 89th person to say "I love the wings", but... I love those cute lil' wings! And the beak, and the talons, and the eyes... Bravo, nice job! I may have to check out that LJ comm, it may help me with my own gryph-suit (partial, no way I'd wear a full one).
Yaaay, I'm so glad you like it! http://community.livejournal.com/fursuit is the site in case you haven't already found it, and it's great! Wonderful people with vast knowledge, and very helpful too. Thanks for the compliment c:
