I cut 3 different styles of feathers out of paper, made the feather shaft on both sides with a strip of foam, painted them, used a razor blade to cut the vanes in them, attached them to a foam board base, made straps so I could wear it, and furred the top and sides. Phew!!

Dude if I see you in costume at AC I will definitely squeal and hug you. Gryphons are my favorites, forever. And this is one of the few gryphons I've seen that not only doesn't look derpy as hell, but looks very fun and well made.

I saw this lil one over on Fursuit LJ. :)
It's a really great suit, with a good shaping job, and yes I can tell under all that fluff. :p
I agree with the others that it would probably look even better with a bit of clipping, but believe I know how scary it is. What I do when I'm nervous is I start very very lightly with scissors. It's possible to make a smooth job with scissors, it just takes forever. But if you're really scared of clipping too much, I personally find it's less scary to go very very slowly with scissors. Specially because you take it so slow. If you're careful to really just clip tiny length of fur at a time, it might give you more control than a clipper would if you're "untrained".

But hey, your call on this. Maybe you'd rather wait, make a few other suits, practice clipping on them, THEN come back to this one. ;)

Actually, it's not so much that IT would look better with clipping, but YOU would see better. Therefore you only really need to gently lighten the fluff around the tear duct area.

:O What did you do to get that iridescent look for the beak and hands and feet? Were they all some sort of iridescent fabric or paint? Please!! Do tell <3

For both the beak and the gloves, I painted them a base coat of dark purple acrylic. I then took some metallic copper spray paint and gently sprayed them, till I got a nice gradient effect. Then I covered in two coats of spray paint clear coat. Voila! 8D I really like the way they look. <3

Are you ever planning on offering these on commission? I would love a suit, but I've never seen anyone make a gryphon suit so I had no examples with which to select a builder.

Hmm, I don't have any plans to commit to commission right now, but it could be a possibility at some point! If I ever did decide to do so I'd post a journal about it. And thank you, I'm so glad you like it! <33

Ooooh, I second of third or whatever about the wings, though the rest is very nice as well, especially the beak. But how did you do the feathers, I cant tell from these shots if they are painted real wings or some kinda fabric?

Well, tbh I tried it on some old costume wings I had and it was a failure of epic proportions on so many levels. XD Maybe chalk it up to me sucking at it, but this was my last solution! XD I agree tho, it would have been much faster if I could have made it work.

This is the first avian/gryphon fursuit where I haven't hated the wings. So nice.

:) Sweet, that is a wicked fur suit though. I really like the kinds that are only a mask, gloves and extras. It makes the person look more like they're what they want to be. A full suit makes a lot of people look like a stuffed animal hehe

Oh wow. This is great inspiration for a possible gryphon fursuit I might be making~ I had no idea what I was gonna do for the hand claws, but I like your idea. Same for the beak~
