I'm using Sai every step of the way, Onta's brushes pack help a lot, I use his Grease Pencil the majority of the time. I just love the feel of it! Also the Blend tool in there is very helpful for coloring; I used it on his hands and highlights in his hair.
Another tip with line art, if you didn't know; is that sharp corners are ugly to the eye. Say you have some sharp corners, such as in between hair tufts and spikes, fill it up a little bit and smooth it out. It's a tiny detail that can help a lot. I don't fill in the tip of hair though, just the beginnings. This is what I mean since it's hard to explain..
