On the left , a Scorpio Constructor, on a right a Scorpio Defender.
Both robots are based off the same design template.
The Habitats manufacture them for construction, repairs, transportation - and defense.
The heavier Scorpio Defender carries additional armor plating, and is equipped with more spare parts in its cargo compartment.
Also its laser is equipped with a variable optics to allow focusing the laser at further distant targets.

The Constructor carries either a fuelcell or a set of high temperature sodium-sulfur cells for its power supply, but also carries three reels with power cables per default to allow cabled operation, drawing energy from larger solar cells or stationary power plants.

The Defender optionally carries a fission powered reactor-capacitor package or a plasma containment unit.

The eye elements are made up of three cameras each:
- one variably focused and zooming high res camera for analysis and inspection,
- one combined optical tool detecting infrared, UV and being sensitive to radiation.
- and the third camera system is the low resolution general operation camera. It contains LED based lasers, which are used to draw patterns into the landscape to allow for 3D perception evenwith just a single eye.

Scorpios can repalce their manipulators with various tools. Most carry a tool set for their current task, like a forklift or a shovel, attached and have a backup tool set strapped to their undercarriage or stored in their cargo compartment.

Scorpio Constructor robot. Similar to the Crab, but elongated body ( 5m ) for additional power packs. Scorpions tail ( 4m ) with a heavy laser in its tip. Can use different manipulators like hands, claws, saws, hammers, ... all stored under the caraprace.
Lower chassis identical to the Crab's.
A lot smarter than IBM's Watson, general purpose AI. Units operating for long times on their own tend to develop ticks and artistic streaks.
AC's call it "Character". Scorpios usually commandeer construction sites. They can command Trilobites.
For longer distance travel: can lower itself onto its belly and then use the thickened upper "tighs" or its legs as wide roadwheels for speed. Social skills, for communication with biologicals.

Scorpio Defense Platform: Larger than a Scorpio Constructor due to added armor elements over tail, legs, caraprace, head and belly.
Bulkier due to additional powerpacks, firefighting equipment and cable spools to hook up to coolant- and energy ports.
Support stationary defence emplacements during meteor showers and bring Trilobites to damaged emplacements to speed up repairs.

After the dust had settled in the inner hangar, the girl looked up. The heavy trapdoor to the outer hangar had fallen shut. Everywhere there were stones as big as her head.
Everywhere, except where she was huddled.
She looked up.
Over her the giant red painted claws of one of the three Scorpions that had hung on the wall formed a roof over her head.
She looked behind her and looked into the triple camera array that formed the left eye of the giant robot.
"H-Hello!" she stammered.
"are you operational?" the growling, wheezing voice of the robot asked.
"Y-Yes," She looked at herself. Then she stood up and moved her limbs and wagged her tail. No injuries.
"Yes, I wasn't hurt. Thank you Mr. Robot!"
"acknowledged. are you capable of using nonpowered tools?"
"Like screwdrivers and wrenches?"
The machine stood a while the growled:
"yes."
"Yes, I can! Why?"
The crab like claws moved away over her, dropping a meter-sized stone on the ground behind her.
"i need assistance." The left claw pointed to the rear of the robots body.
There, a large stone had dropped onto the scorpions tail, wrecked and crushed it.
Naira looked around. The other two scorpions were wrecked under even larger stones. All three robots had come off their wall mounts, all three had aimed to protect her from the falling stones.
The scorpions tailbase had been smashed and was stuck. And the rear openings to deploy his trilobites were blocked by his rear body being pinned to the floor by his tail.
"Oh my! What can I do?" the girl looked at the mass of jangled wreckage, looking back at the wrench and screwdriver the scorpion had given her.
"you can sing whilst you release the red marked screws and bolts" the scorpion said in its monotone voice.
"Sing? Me? I cant sing!"
The scorpion moved his large claws a few times, pushing stones away and swiping the floor in front of its body.
"then hum with me." he said, and moments later the whine of motors, valves and covers moving started, turning into music but moments later...
