Wire tempts Sheriff Decker into gorging on an entire train car of fattening pastries...
Feeding the Sheriff
By: Indi
Sheriff Decker could already smell the overpowering aroma of sweets as he stepped into the train car. It was a scent that made the lean rattlesnake hungry, and for a moment he wished the treats within were for him. Of course the stacks of pastries were all for some big party the Mayor was hosting the next day, one exclusively for the wealthy ranchers and business owners in town. Even as the sheriff he’d be stuck outside on patrol, making sure no one interrupted the event. Just like he was stuck spending the night guarding the car of confectioneries.
He wasn’t excited for the task, but as sheriff his job was to keep the peace no matter what. He’d just have to settle for a dry muffin or two at the bakery later.
Decker’s two deputies were already in the train car. Rye—a sabertooth cat—and Seth—a sheep—weren’t always the most competent duo, but they did their job well enough for Decker to appreciate them. They were clearly bored, and Rye was already yawning up a storm. As much as he’d have enjoyed the company, Decker didn’t want to waste their time on something that was guaranteed to be uneventful. After all, who would try to steal pastries?
“Why don’t you two take the night off,” Decker said. “Get some sleep so you’ll be wide awake for the party patrol tomorrow.”
Neither Rye nor Seth protested the offer, thanking the Sheriff as they left for bed. Meanwhile, Decker settled in for a long night of nothing.
An hour later, the sound of boots on packed dirt caught Decker’s attention. He flicked out his tongue, but the pastries drowned out any scent beyond the car. There shouldn’t have been anyone else around the train at that time, the noise was only getting closer. Decker crept over to the train car’s door and flattened himself against the wall, pistol at the ready. The door slid open a crack, and then fully.
A chubby wolf entered, his gaze locked onto the pastries. He had a bushy white tail and a collar of white, fluffy fur around his neck. No one Decker recognized.
The Sheriff waited until the trespasser had taken a few steps forward before he blocked the entrance and got their attention with a shake of his rattle. The wolf practically jumped, turning around with a sheepish smile that didn’t look the least bit innocent.
“So, what grand excuse do you have for sneaking into this train car in the dead of night?” Decker asked. He didn’t see a weapon on the wolf. They didn’t seem all that threatening, either.
“Oh! Umm...would you believe me if I said I was lost?”
“Not even for a second. Now normally you’d be spending a night in a cell, but I can’t leave this train car, which means you can’t leave this train car, which means you’re gonna be keeping me company.” Decker laughed. “Now why don’t you have a seat in the corner, mister…”
“Wire,” the wolf answered, sitting without protest. “And yours?”
“Decker.” The rattlesnake wasn’t sure why he’d been honest, or why he hadn’t simply said he was the sheriff. Something about Wire made it easy for Decker to let his guard down. He just seemed rather harmless.
Despite the unexpected intrusion, everything was quiet for the next hour. Wire didn’t divulge his true reasons for being there, but he didn’t try anything suspicious, either. He was polite and calm. He didn’t act like he was under arrest—just taking a relaxing break.
“Those pastries certainly do smell delightful, don’t you think?” Wire asked, cheerfully.
The pastries had been on Decker’s mind since arriving. “Yeah.”
“I knew you were a fellow confectionery connoisseur! I can practically taste the frosting and cream filling. There are so many varieties in here, and surely they’re all wonderful! But I bet you’ve already snuck a little taste for yourself.” Wire gave a knowing grin.
“Of course not! I’m here to guard this food, not eat it,” Decker insisted. Though suddenly there was temptation where none had existed before. It’s not like it was hard to completely ignore the pastries with so many being within arm’s reach.
“I don’t think they’d notice one little pastry missing. Really, you deserve a taste for all the hard work you’re doing.”
The prisoner made sense. Guarding party food wasn’t exactly a glamorous job for a sheriff, and he hadn’t been promised anything extra for it, either. One bite wouldn’t hurt. Besides, it’d be more than enough to sate his appetite for the rest of the night. Decker plucked one out of the nearest stack before looking at the happy wolf. “I’m not doing this because of you, ya know. And it’s just going to be one.”
Decker’s convictions wavered the second he started eating the pastry. The outer layers were buttery, wonderful on their own. The cream filling made him smile, his tail wagging and rattling in delight. He was licking frosting off his fingers within seconds.
“It was good, wasn’t it?” Wire asked. “A shame you won’t try more—there are so many varieties here, some of the best pastries ever baked. Personally if I had to choose only one I’d go with a chocolate-frosted one.”
“You’re pretty knowledgeable about these pastries, thief.” Decker’s gaze was on the treats, not the prisoner, though. The taste of the first lingered on his tongue. Rather than sate his appetite, it’d made him hungrier. There were so many—would a second really be missed
“Well I’m no expert, but I happen to work with food in general a lot—desserts especially,” Wire said. “Few things in life are better than a delicious meal, that feeling of being pleasantly full after clearing your plate. It’s always good to treat your taste buds.”
The wolf was definitely the oddest thief Decker had ever come across. He was used to drunks or desperate bumblers, along with the occasional pro specializing in stealth. Wire was none of those. He’d been easily caught, and his target was more dessert than any one person could ever reasonably eat. Decker should have been a bit more suspicious of him, but instead he found himself nodding along to everything Wire said.
There was a chocolate pastry closeby, and without a word Decker snatched it and chowed down. It tasted incredible, just like the previous one. He didn’t notice Wire’s grin widen. Without another word to his prisoner, Decker sniffed out a new pastry he hadn’t tried yet. He doubted the Mayor or anyone involved with the party had actually counted the pastries, and even if they did somehow notice some were gone they wouldn’t be able to prove he’d eaten them.
As Decker began grazing Wire happily made suggestions for what to try next. He made no move to escape, simply sitting in his chair and giving the Sheriff words of encouragement.
The more Decker ate, the easier it was for the rattlesnake to justify his snacking. He wasn’t just snagging one of each kind anymore, he was snagging two. Then three, and four. One pastry missing from a platter would be noticed, but not a whole platter missing. Slowly his flat middle was rounding out as he stuffed himself more than ever before. For unknown reasons he wasn’t feeling the least bit full, and Wire urging him to continue eating emboldened him.
Finishing off the tray the very first pastries had been on, Decker was surprised to see a new one handed his way. Wire had stood, but instead of sneaking away he’d brought Decker food. The sheriff hesitated for only a moment before accepting it. The pace of his gluttony increased dramatically after that.
Decker was cramming clawfuls of pastries into his maw, even tipping trays over his open mouth and letting them all fall in on occasion. He was well aware of the sheer amount he was eating, but he didn’t care. It was all too good to resist. He’d claim bandits had raided the train, that they’d lured him away and stolen some of the desserts. As he ate and ate, “some” became “half” and then “most”.
And of course the more Decker ate, the larger his belly grew. A few trays in it was already a taut ball straining his vest and shirt. Wire carefully unbuttoned them, letting the rattlesnake’s bulging gut wobble free. He gave it a squeeze, feeling how soft the scaley mound was in his grip. Decker didn’t mind the attention. If anything the moans he made welcomed more of it, and Wire grew bolder.
Decker’s swelling belly wobbled as he went from stack to stack, devouring every pastry in sight. Before long he was forced to carry his massive middle in his claws so he wouldn’t topple over. Wire eagerly stepped in to feed the sheriff once he no longer could himself. One paw passed pastries into Decker’s mouth while the other rubbed and squeezed his belly.
Eventually the rattlesnake was too stuffed to move. He sat down against a wall of the train car, belly spread over his lap. Wire leaned on it as the feeding continued, feeling his elbows sink in slightly. Decker’s gut was slowly growing beneath him, getting bigger and bigger and bigger by the minute.
Tempting Decker had proven surprisingly easy. Then again, Wire was a professional at convincing others to give into gluttonous desire. He was already imagining how delightfully plump the rattlesnake was going to get once they’d digested every dessert in the car. A round belly for sure, and chubby cheeks. Thicker rump and thighs, not to mention the tail. There’d be a jiggle in his step for sure.
Decker himself thought little of the inevitable gains. He merely decided that he’d explain away his gut by claiming he’d eaten some of the bandits. He’d weave a fantastic, heroic tale of him gobbling them up one-by-one, before ending up too stuffed to snag the last ones as they ran off with the pastries. Why would they have any reason to doubt their honorable sheriff?
Once the last pastry had been gobbled up, Decker’s belly resembled a giant, round sand dune. He was more belly than snake, too heavy to stand up on his own. With Wire’s help he was rolled forwards until he was resting against his boulder of a gut.
“I wish I could eat like this every day,” Decker murmured. Despite the tremendous amount he’d eaten, his eyes were still searching for any missed pastries. Alas, Wire had ensured he ate every last one.
“Well you could—you’d just have to be creative. And admittedly forceful.” Wire was circling the mass of Decker, patting the rattlesnake’s gut often.
“You mean stealing it, like you?”
“Hey now, I’m not the one who looted this whole car of desserts.” Wire gave Decker’s belly an accusatory poke that made both blush.
“It was more of a bonus for all the years of hard work I’ve given this town,” Decker insisted. “I deserved it.”
“Well you deserve to have your fill all the time. And with my assistance that will happen.”
Decker was still thinking about the proposal when the door to the train car opened. Seth and Rye entered, the deputies stopping in their tracks as they spotted their engorged sheriff. There was silence, the pair clearly stunned by what they saw.
“Sheriff?” Rye asked as he approached. “We...we felt bad about you handling the watch all on your own and came to check on you. What the heck happened?”
“W-Well...you see…” Decker couldn’t think of any excuse at all to explain the empty trays and his massive belly. Seth and Rye would guess the truth soon enough, and then Decker would be the one squeezed into a cramped cell for theft.
Wire leaned in and whispered to Decker. “Show them where the pastries went. Don’t let them spoil your fun.”
The wolf carefully strolled behind the two deputies, who were still too astonished by their boss to pay him any attention. They were unprepared for the shoves which sent them stumbling onto Decker’s gut. Decker was surprised as well, but he realized quickly enough what he had to do.
A hoof and a paw were grabbed, then pulled into an awaiting maw. Seth and Rye tried to struggle, but Decker’s hunger proved impossible to overcome. Of course Wire helped, guiding the two deputies deeper and deeper into Decker as if they were simply giant pastries. Their addition caused the rattlesnake’s belly to balloon outward further.
For Decker, consuming his own loyal deputies was far easier than expected—both physically and mentally. Once they were sealed away he slapped his mountainous middle, barely able to feel their squirms beneath the sea of pastries they’d been shoved into. He was finally full.
“You know, I think I could get used to this,” Decker laughed, giving his gut as much of an embrace as he could manage.
Wire handled the rest, wrapping his arms around the enormous middle and burying his snout as deep as he could. He could feel the movement within, just barely, but it was the size he cared about most. The rattlesnake had potential to get enormous, he just needed a nudge in the right direction and a devoted helper. Wire could provide both.
The wolf reached over and plucked off Decker’s sheriff star. “A little career change is all it’ll take for that dream to come true. The area’s ripe for the picking. You could be the biggest outlaw around here—literally.”
“You should’ve suggested that before I turned two potential lackeys into snake pudge,” Decker grinned.
“Well you’ve still got me, and I’ll make a far better lackey than those belly-fillers ever would’ve~” Wire squeezed Decker’s gut again and again, reluctant to release it.
“Then it looks like I’ve got myself the start of a new gang!” Decker bellowed. Gluttony had managed to wipe away all his morals in less than a night. He lived for food now, not the law. “And I happen to know about a party in the morning that’ll be a great source of loot and food.”
“Ooh, what kind of food?”
“Only the richest, most fattening treats. The kind that won’t be expecting their own sheriff’s new appetite for gorging and glory.”
Decker laughed and his whole belly wobbled, much to Wire’s joy. The wolf was looking forward to watching his new leader’s fame and waistline expand.
