This variety of plum is the smallest I’ve ever seen. The fruits are not much bigger than a large cherry. Around here, these are called Sand Hill plums, but are also known as Native plums or American plums. The day I shot this, the plants were showing a wide range of degrees of ripeness. Some of the fruit was green, some was almost white with hints of purple, and some were peach colored like you see here. I’ve never tried them, but have been told that they are best-tasting at this stage.
