Most artists are confused when i tell them that Philomela needs to extend her "ornithopter transmission" to move her wings because normally they are locked in place.
Well... problem is: Metal does not bend.
To show something like wing flapping, her normal shoulder would not allow it. It's just 2 tiny holes.

So her back opens and the gears of her ornithopter transmission come out so that her wings can have the full range of motion and actually ... you know... Flap.

Yeah, one thing to understand is that you need some way to convey motion to the wings and you can't just rely on something tiny to do so.
So i asked for a "standard ornithopter transmission" there to give movement to the wings and i wanted to demonstrate the range of motion.
I might need to do stuff like re-doing the animation from a different angle if this is too hard to understand though.
