A reeeeeally nice art trade picture for
Stampy of his Eleve the Leafeon with my Sierra the Ninetales, both at their NATURAL heights. o3o
Here we have Eleve just casually sitting on a planet, examining a moon, with her paw and sandal lazily looming over Sierra. Yup, when you are so tall you can sit on a planet and pluck the moon from orbit… >w>’
This was another attempt at atmospheric depth and by golly I think I finally got it right! This is really tough to grasp in traditional dry media. Still annoys me that digital artists can just apply the effect on a whim in basically 5-10 minutes. >.>’
A big part of the success on the depth this time around was I limited myself to just my 2H hardness mechanical pencil, which is the hardest and thus lightest shading I can do. It lets me very slowly build up the tones and keep them crisp and smooth. Another key part is to make little to no use of an eraser to lighten anything. When I used an eraser in the past, the crisp details were lost and can be difficult to get back.
Done with graphite pencil on white card stock paper.

Absolutely amazing work <3
You did a wonderful job with Eleve here. The perspective is amazing, as are the depth effects. I love the contrast between the extreme "foreground" and everything else.
And to think there's platforms the size of countries just off screen too. Sierra's in for quite the climb!
