As seen in this old batch here, Silver (who was already cracked from the time travel due to his psychic mind) was captured by Robotnik's forces. He couldn't put up a fight since he was beaten by Shadow moments before. He was stripped of his inhibitor suit which caused him to suffer a psychic meltdown upon being bombarded by the thoughts and feelings of the entire world. He went fully catatonic and was placed in an asylum facility in the Capital to be studied under maximum security. His mind however was elsewhere entirely. But don't worry he wasn't alone.
While his body remained motionless, his mind became trapped in the vast, mind-bending landscape of the collective subconscious of the world. And much like the horrid Chao, the subconcsious realm too reflected the world it was tied to..... and it was bad. We're talking Giger, Beksinski and Hieronymus Bosch merged with the whimsical imagery of fairy tales. And the worst part was, in the mindscape, he had no powers. During his first day there, he stumbled upon a tall, building ruin that still somehow stood. He entered it for shelter. There he found a repentant yet still mischievous creature of nightmares imprisoned there for decades for a missdeed it wasn't really willing to share. Silver freed the remoursful, clownish figure after it convinced him that without it he'd never survive out in the world of thoughts and dreams. Upon exiting the building, the creature, who'd introduced itself as JeSTER, was stunned by the state of the thought world. Turns out it wasn't pulling that stuff about Silver not surviving out of it's ass, earning an angry glare from the peeved Hedgehog. The two set out for the only way out for Silver, a massive pilar of light in the distant horizon, beyond the horrors and beauty of this strange realm.
Notes: Don't worry, the JeSTER doesn't enter the real world at the end of their journey. Beings like it can't exist in the real world. It kept in touch with Silver though from time to time through his dreams..... much to the recovered hedghog's annoyence. Also, during the journey, the two are hunted and stalked by an almost monstrous figure called Rialla the Prancing Pierrot. For reasons unfathomable to Silver, JeSTER calls the thing it's sibling.
