They exist as an entity in a world that went digital, in a more literal sense. The very existence of everything became based on digits, pieces of information. That's the "physical" to them now, after an event caused a device to malfunction.

Galamel here is wearing his work body. Yes, body; as data he can switch his form freely given he was born with a special error that gave him access to a Master Tool. It lets him override most permissions set in places, and remove limits such as thirst and hunger... which do exist, as the world is in a state of emulating the old, physical lifestyle.
