Oh golly, I used one (it's called Aveo here in Europe) from 2012 to 2017. Drove in total about 250.000km with it. Let me tell you: one of the worst cars ever, when it comes to long-term use and spare parts. Motor is 99% same as the one in Opel Corsa, but that 1% makes all the parts incompatible, so you're forced to buy "original" ones which are 30 - 40% more expensive than Opel parts. Oh, do I have to mention Chevrolet (formerly Daewoo) moved out of Europe in 2013, so getting parts became even harder? Yep.
Water pump dies at every 120.000km, spark cap ("DC module") needs to be changed every 50.000km, engine temperature sensor died at about 190.000. Alternator died at 90.000, and it's impossible to find a replacement part, and original one costs $450. Because I had to keep the old alternator, dashboard didn't like it was a zombie alternator, so it constantly kept the battery light on, and played a warning beep every 15 minutes or so AT RANDOM. Imagine that. You're on a 3-hour drive on the highway, and you get random BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP just to remind you that he doesn't like that the alternator just works fine but doesn't respond to CANbus commands. On a brighter side: at least you can't ever fall to sleep with these audio harassment.
Lack of headlight cover makes the lenses gather dirt EXTREMELY QUICK. At rainy and muddy weather, you have to stop every 50km or so, and wipe the lights, otherwise you see only half light. ;)
The engine (petrol 1200cc 60hp) is extremely under-powered; combined with a 5-shift gearbox you have to think twice before taking over on a 2-lane road. I found myself stuck on a 15% slope in one Belgrade street, and the car was UNABLE to climb up even in 1st gear and full throttle. Damn. I'm glad I got rid of it (actually I gave it to my brother because he usually drives on flat terrain and uses it 2 or 3 days a week, so he doesn't argue). At 12.000km I installed LPG gas drive on my Aveo, and it worked kinda okay (engine power was further reduced by about 20% because Serbian propane-butane gas is worst quality in all Europe) until brother disabled it at 220.000km. Car was undrive-able because the power dropped so incredibly low, it felt like a 1500kg car powered by Citroen 2CV engine.
It doesn't even have a coolant temperature dial on the dashboard. Yes, none! I had to buy an OBD dongle and connect it to my phone so I could monitor the engine temperature. Even cars from 1960s had a temperature dial.
Lemme tell you an anecdote. Back in 2013, before the VW ECU pollution scandal, a skilled mechanic (these are worth gold) told me to remove the OBD dongle when I don't need it. Why I asked, and he said that many cars he had chance to work on, have some special kind of "service mode" which activates when diagnostics is connected to ECU, and reduces output power of the engine to reduce emission. Heh, I said to myself when I saw VW executives blushing in 2015, seems like most car brands are doing it, only VW group took it up the ass.
Ha, sorry for the vent. :3
Now I'm happily driving a 2017 Fabia 1.2 110hp. Works like a charm, already 125.000km ;)
My foxy bf moved in, we're living together now. How are you doing?

Sorry it took me forever to reply but those are some good stories, sad to know that owning a Sonic in europe is that complicated nowadays. Running out of proper, cheap replacement parts is a pain in the ass, big time D:
However, good to know you're living with the bf, that's great! I got married a years ago, and if all goes well, both my hubby and I will be living in Vancouver come December! :)
