Avery, like all untrained equines, has a primal aversion to sudden loud noises. Obviously a crowded firing range was going to be out of the question, but after some coaxing, he was eventually persuaded to give open-ground skeet-shooting a try to maybe help chip away at the mental barrier - as long it was in a safe, controlled environment with a proper instructor to calm any anxieties. Even if he never picks up a firearm again, at least he can say he made the effort.
Looks like he wasn't anticipating the experience to be quite so 'theraputic' in more ways than one... let's hope it doesn't instill a fresh slew of new 'problems' to compound all his current ones.

There's something quirkily Sagittarius about it, for sure. I imagine Avery would have quite a knack and a keen natural eye for skeet shooting.
Don't expect him to actually want to own a shotgun though, life is complicated enough for him as it is in his own series, and Murphy's Law bites him hard and often.

Yes, but they have no biological justification for their skill in marksmanship. They don't have telescopic vision or any of those other traits, and their torsos are those of men, so their arms would have the same strength as any other man. There would be nothing to differentiate them, so far as I'm aware, other than personal skill.
Only the external appearance is human (with compromises), and depending on the style of taur, not the same scale depending on how 'realistically' you want to match up the proportions. Avery is normally depicted as close to eight feet from head to hoof and weighing about 1400 pounds.
Assuming the 'human' muscle and tensile strength is the same - horses are built like springs - blood, oxygen flow, adrenaline and other hormones, would all be completely different. It's quite possible his natural physiology could fail a simple dope test.
