Right. That's where I remember them from. Personally I like the ones from Neocron better (even though those wore out at an alarming rate) and yes, I know what you mean. Have been running around with Li8ncoln's rifle for a loooong time myself for much the same reason, but against power armor you need some more punch so using one of these became more of a necessity than anything else.
I am one of those suicidal lunatics who like to go into close combat. XD
Hammers, swords, everything that doesnt need amunition and you can taste the breath of the enemy.
I finished fallout NV completely in close combat, in fallout 4 it was just too much fun to blow thing up from a distance.

Considering that it essentially is Oblivion in a post-apocalyptic world, that is not too unusual (and one of the major gripes I have with Bethesda - besides pushing the Nuka Cola drink maker out of business prior to the beginning of Fallout 4 development. and yes, that really pissed me off. Should just have incorporated it and kept it around.... Gosh, that stuff was good.
Only saw some bottles behind glass at a friends home.
Sadly never tasted it and didnt dared to ask, it was behind glass after all. XD
But yeah...there are a bunch of things considering bethesda at the moment that realy make me angry.
Skyrim is my favorite game of all time and I was so hoping to get the next elder scrolls for years.
But after the whole Fallout debacle and the things surounding it, I have no hope anymore.
I am afraid they run the franchise into the ground.

From my perspective they already did. as for myself, that action against the drink company pissed me off to the point where I decided to not buy any further Bethesda games. No Fallout 4, nothing. Skyrim was okay (although with a number of pretty annoying bugs - which is common for "good enough"-Bethesda)
as for Nuka Cola, what i really liked about the stuff was that it was not so disgustingly sweet. and Quantum actually glowed blue under UV-light. Used the latter back in the day for my final exams ^^ went in there, opened and downed the first bottle before it even began, with another as backup just in case. Was my chemistry-exam of all things.

It is realy sad v.v
I was late to the party as always, skyrim was my first bethesda and I played fallout and the older elder scrolls down to morrowind in reverse.
These games have a special place in my heart. Skyrim helped me to cope with some realy bad stuff.
But in this industry, it feels like the passion fades and its all about money and dirty scemes nowadays.
