Yes. The canon-but-never-illustrated, but also unchanged for a long, long time, backstory is that she was part of a gang of Carni Kids who would pickpocket, etc. at the circus and one mark hit her/sliced her eye, blinding her in it, the ultimate result making her at lot worse in the acrobatic routine.
Partly inspired by something which happened to my dad. He accidentally blinded himself in one eye throwing a plumb-bob at glass bottles when he was a child. I've known the story for ages; I came across the bill for his eye trauma at the hospital when I was going through some papers a few months ago.
I'm not sure which is the better story, but until it's drawn and therefore "finalized" I don't have to settle, I guess. That it's been something she's had to live with a long time, is the main feature.
