I thought it was high time I share one of my own favorite recipes! :)
Whiskey-Cola Ribs
3-4 cans cola (I used Coca-Cola myself, but any sugary cola should do)
750 ml bottle of Whiskey (Jack Daniels old no.7 personally. It has a bitter bite that works well in this recipe)
2 bottle BBQ sauce (Any will do, I just used Kraft original BBQ sauce)
2 racks pork ribs
Hardware you’ll need:
A good sharp knife
Cutting board
Large stock pot
Medium saucepan
Baking sheet
Aluminum Foil
Tongs
Put the ribs on a good cutting board and use a very sharp knife to cut each rack into thirs, cutting as close to the bone as possible.
Pour off about 1 cup (237 ml) of the whiskey and set aside
Add remaining bottle of whiskey, 2 cans of cola, and 1 bottle of BBQ sauce to the stock pot
Bring to a boil, stirring until all sauce is dissolved
Once boiling, add ribs to boiling liquid. Liquid displacement should cover the ribs, but if not add another can of cola. Boil for about 15-20 minutes, then remove from heat.
While boiling, pour other bottle of BBQ sauce, 1 can of cola and reserved cup of whiskey into sauce pan and bring to a rolling boil, then reduce to a low simmer. Allow to reduce by about 1/2 to 2/3 (more for stickier sauce)
Preheat oven to 400 F (205 C)
Cover baking sheet with aluminum foil and carefully place ribs onto the sheet.
Spoon/brush reduced sauce over ribs
Place ribs in oven for 15 minutes until ribs get slightly crispy around the edges and the sauce gets thick and sticky.
Remove from oven and let rest 5-10 minutes before serving.
Goes well with almost any sides, but an ear of corn and a nice baked potato are perfect to me! :)
