Just a personal scribble from a couple weeks back that I finished today as warmup. Probably belongs in some future dump of personal scribbles but I want to post this one on its own, sue me. I have so many ideas like this one and sometimes I'm a little sad I haven't got the motivation, time or money to actually spend on making them a reality - and let's face it, a lot of art like this especially if I go to the weirder end of my ideas is not that appealing. I guess this one could be developed further and make a decent tattoo design or similar. Maybe a postcard. But right now it's just me puking out the idea.
I hope you can swim 'cause this shit is deep: it's just about having your body/mind fuck you over from enjoying things. wew

Thanks!
I feel that way as well, I don't think worrying about pleasing everyone is what's stopping me from making it specifically - rather, my arting time and energy is more efficiently spent making something others can enjoy as well. (And honestly, I have expenses to pay and all that, making art that doesn't appeal to my customers at all does not contribute.)
I would be lying if I said I don't find it discouraging sometimes, of course. I'd also be lying if I said I only have unappealing personal work ideas, I'm just sad to leave so much out sometimes.

It is discouraging, but please don't mistake that for the work being unappreciated. There IS an audience for the hard work, the uncomfortable work, the powerful and personal work, I promise you. (Even if it is a smaller audience, it's non-zero.)
Maybe one day as your audience grows, that subset will grow enough too that it can become feasible to dip into this personal kind of work whenever you need to? I hope so, anyway.
