Yosh sighed as he sat upon the bench alongside the shore.
“Is this the right thing?” he asked himself while looking up towards the looming storm clouds. “Am I doing more harm than good?”
The dino-duck, who was clad in a rain jacket and plastic pants over his diapers, lowered his head and sighed. The tall grass behind him seeming to move in tandem while he expelled his breath.
“If it’s wrong…,” he considered. “Why does it seem like others are agreeing with me and rooting for me to succeed?”
The waves gently lapped as the distant rumble of thunder could be heard.
“I’ve been trying to make this point for over a year,” he pouted. “I’ve tried to share how limited I am and how what is to come is only going to limit me more along with those who rely on us.”
Another gust of wind blew that made Yosh’s raincoat flap about.
“I shouldn’t care about what they think my reasons are,” he said to himself. “What matters is not ending up on the same hostile island that would only further make me seem incompetent.”
Yosh nervously rubbed at his diaper. It was one way he soothed himself when he felt anxious. This was no fetish nor turn-on. Rather it was the soft texture of the padding allowing his mind to bring back happier thoughts of times where matters beyond his control did not drive much of his fate.
Yosh moved his hand back up to his beak and took in the scent of the lavender-scented powder he had more than generously poured into his diaper prior to coming to the bus stop.
“Why must things always be such a struggle?” he asked as he looked towards the sky. “Why does it feel like nobody cares about what I point out through listening to people, my colleagues, and noticing an ongoing trend of apathy?”
The dino-duck smelled his hand again, closed his eyes, and sighed.
“I suppose my bed is made now,” he stated with a lowered head. “I’ll either be setting sail in search of another land or riding to a part of the island in which I can be of true value without ever-feeling like I’m behind the proverbial ‘8 Ball’.”
The wind whooshed harder than it had before. This gave the green-and-white colored dino-duck a slight chill in which brought his mind back to the coming storm.
“I can only do so much,” he said while adjusting his jacket. “Maybe, one day, what I’m doing now will make the world a better place for those like myself?”
The sound of distant thunder grew closer. Flashes of lightning could now be seen off in the distance.
“I’m not running away,” he said with far less confidence than he’d hoped to have said it. “I’m better this time. More prepared. I even have more resources.”
A stronger gust of wind blew in that caused Yosh to huddle-in on himself. The soft comfort of his diaper helping to soothe his fearful mind as he braced for what was coming.
“I’m going to be okay,” he said with a slight shiver. “I won’t leave the island without proving how I did everything I could to stay while advocating for those I serve along with work alongside with.”
Rain began to fall at irregular intervals. Fortunately the raincoat, coupled with Yosh’s body naturally being protective against water, kept him from feeling any chill the droplets may have brought with them.
“I’ll hang in here,” he said nervously as the waves grew louder and grew closer to the shore. “I’ve weathered storms before and this one shall be no different except for me not giving in to being brought down by those who would try and do so.”
The dino-duck looked out to see the storm had completely darkened the skies as no form of transportation had yet to even show signs of arriving.
“This is my island,” he said. “I wish not to leave it unless I have no other choice but be at the mercy of the seas.”
