Meet Schatzi. She was born early April about 16 years ago. I was just a very young little girl, and we needed a dog to feel "at home" in our new house. We had just moved up from Alabama and a puppy would be just the thing to cheer up the kids. So, we went to a little kennel called Puppy Paradise. There we found that there was a littler just born a few days prior. My Dad went in to choose one. He picked up each tiny pup but none clicked. He picked up the last one, and she seemed to snuggle right into his hands, gave a great big yawn and went back to sleep. Guess which one he choose. when she was 10 weeks old, she came home, with a great big ribbon around her neck.
She was with us through good times and bad, and never complained about much (even when she had several 4-7 year olds gnawing on her ears) and always gave us a wag of her tail.
If there were orphan animals, or if any of the strays were hurt, she'd go right on up and nurse them back to health. She even helped save some little kittens whose mama had died.
Late 2009, something happened to her. She either rolled wrong, or tried to play as she always did, but her back gave out completely. We tried all we could to ease it, but she still yelped and whined. When she saw how worried we all were, she even tried walking out of the blanket to lick us, only to end up causing herself more pain. We took her to the vet wanting to do anything to save her, but the vet informed us that she would not survive any surgery that they could do. We decided to end her suffering.
Several months later, to ease the silence of our home of the cheerful skittering of our pup, we adopted 2 dachshunds.
This picture was taken 2 weeks before she died. If anyone wants to see the original just let me know. This is dedicated to all of our pets who work hard every day to make sure we are happy. Please, take good care of your pets, for you will miss them terribly when they are gone...

XD We learned that through many years. Every Doxie we have ever had were mishievous in their own ways, whether it was stealing baby rabbits, or tag teaming with a german shepherd (story made short: mean dog goes after mom and brothers, out through a glass window comes a doxie with a large dog right behind her, and they both tear up the meanest dog in the neighborhood) They have never ceased to surprise me!
