In this day and age, you can get away without having a drummer in your band - drum machines and programs are more than sophisticated enough to take on the job in a pinch. But live percussion can be one of the most fun things about a gig, and Heath knows how to play skins better than he can play any other instrument, so he plays a standing drum kit during portions of the show where he needs a break from strutting his stuff and the songs need a little more oomph. He's also on laptop duty, but that looks boring as hell.
