Here's a reference sheet of a new character I had designed by
flashspot
Her name is "Odette Zephyr", and she's yet another adventurer seeking to make her claim in "The New Frontier".
Growing up in the lap of luxury, Odette was raised to want for nothing - and to beg for nothing. Calm and calculating, Odette is well-versed in both the academics and fighting. If there's something she desires, she's been taught to take it - cause time spent yearning is time wasted. Asking and begging are for the weak - action is what separates the strong and prosperous from the rest. It is these tenants that have ensured Odette's survival. But it's not the world that she's trying to weather - it's her own family.
You see, the Zephyr family is by far the most feared house in all the Mainland and Haven. The mere mention of their name alone gives pause to both pirates and migrants - so it goes without question that anyone that deals with them should proceed with caution. Now the start of their infamy began way back during the Empire's reign. Starting out as a shipping company, the Zephyr family made their fortune and name shipping goods along the Empire's coast. As their favor and clout grew, they began dealing in more "nefarious" businesses, such as drug smuggling and slave trafficking. These transactions eventually allowed them to build favor with various pirate and criminal groups - which eventually paved the way for the creation of "The Syndicate" - the largest criminal organization to ever exist.
With the Zephyr family leading the Syndicate, they grew in prosperity as they laid claim to more and more of what the Mainland had to offer. Of course their existence was of no secret to the Empire, but due to the Zephyr family's high standing and influence they had, there was nothing that could be done to halt the Syndicate's growth - that is until the Empire's collapse. With the Emperor's death, numerous factions emerged vying for power, and fractured the Empire into pieces. Now at first, the Syndicate prospered at the chaos and conflict that ensued - but as the dust settled, and all that remained were corpses and ruins, they soon found their once never-ending wellsprings of fortune drying up. Eventually various barbarian clans and slaver groups began scooping up what was left - taking what the Syndicate once held and indulging themselves without. Of course the Syndicate tried its best to barter, and coerce these groups into compliance, but as they eventually learned, influence has no effect on savages that simply just don't care. Ultimately, with the hold on the Mainland diminishing with each passing day, the remnants of the Syndicate eventually retreated to the island nation of Haven - plotting of course to one day retake everything they had lost.
Jumping to the present, the Syndicate still exists, but is a diminished shadow of its former glory. Headed by Sebastian Zephyr (Odette's grandfather), the Syndicate still seeks to reclaim what they had lost by pursing new ventures - one of being "The New Frontier" - the mysterious, newly discovered jungle continent far to the west of the Mainland. It is there that Odette has been sent by her grandfather to find and establish claim to whatever she can for the Syndicate. But unbeknownst to him, Odette has a personal vendetta against her grandfather and is actually aiming to amass whatever resources she finds there to engineer his downfall. But the slightest misstep can spell her demise, as any sort of betrayal (even the hint of one) is met with death in the Syndicate - and in her family. So Odette has to make sure nothing falls out of her control or out of place, because if it does, it's curtains for her.
This dilemma of hers is best emphasized by the Zephyr family's motto:
"We are the violent storm guised as the gentle breeze."
