One of the more appealing parts about transformation I find is how much control is wrestled away from the character. They get thrust in a situation where they have no control over what is happening to their own body, and must react to the situation accordingly before they... well, faint, or throw up, or however else humans cope with an overloaded mind.

This is where I'm coming from when I say that I prefer TF stories where transformation IS the story. That part where the character struggles with themselves. Where their greatest opponent is their unwillingness to change. It is an exciting psychological battle, and there are many different ways it can end.

... that, and it gives me a great chance to practice with fur textures.
