I really wanted to just upload something to show where my weaknesses are when constructing figures. I try to avoid drawing standing poses because they always look uncomfortably stiff. I'm learning gesture to combat this but I still have no idea how I'm supposed to build on top of it while keeping the gesture flow.
I can usually hide most of my anatomy mistakes under clothes (at least I think I hide them well haha) but I would really like to get to the point to where I can show off more of the figure.
So far my process is to roughly draw a basic line of action and just lay down the ribcage, middle stomach ball (lol) , and pelvis. Then I just draw rough sticks and balls for the limbs and joints.
After that I just go straight to the outline. or is it called contour? Either way I just keep refining the outline over and over and over until it looks right enough. Does anyone else work like this? Surely there is a more direct and efficient way but I feel like it comes with experience. Or actual knowledge of proper construction.
Oh! on the bottom right corner I also cut and pasted the construction layers from that witch sketch I uploaded a few days ago. So you can see how that looked underneath.
I hope in a year or two I can look back at my old current workflow and go "man, I can't believe I used do it that way, gross" haha.
