Sergeant Randolph the Lupe
Species: Lupe
Color: Blue
Age: 35
Birthplace: Meriacres
Occupation: Ranger
Proficiency: Short Bow
Loyalty: Meridell
Petpet: Fox the Juma
Personality: He does have a tendency to be the center of attention, often finding himself butting in into the middle of a conversation, but he catches himself in mid-sentence and waits his turn. He is well mannered and very polite, always putting others before himself, including his own family. Consequently, however, he hardly reveals how he truly feels to others, and can sometimes find himself getting frustrated.
Background:
Champions of Meridell
Born in Meriacres during the beginning prosperity of Meridell, Randolph came from a large family of ten and was the second youngest of the family. His parents raised him with little expectations, needing all the help they could get just to feed the King and his Subjects back in Meridell castle, now eager to work since the crops had finally begun to grow. Barely old enough to lend a helping hand, Randolph was still eager to assist his parents.
It was when he was six that he barely remembered the legions of Lord Darigan come down from the fortress and invade Meriacres. Several of his brothers were drafted into the armies as man-at-arms, making life on the farm much harder. Randolph himself was terrified of the soldiers of Darigan, and went into hiding with his parents when they came pillaging and burning the crops and cottages around them. They lived off provisions in the basements for two weeks before Jeran himself accompanied by several strangers coaxed them into coming out, declaring that Lord Darigan’s Reign had ended.
Then the rebuilding for Meridell and Meriacres began. Everyone pitched in and even Randolph’s brothers came back home, all unscathed and sharing their stories of battle with the family. His mother and father were rather uncomfortable about it, but Randolph himself showed much enthusiasm and excitement hearing of their stories.
Eventually, though, life on meriacres returned back to normal for some time.
Battle For Meridell
It was on Randolph’s eleventh birthday that he’d heard rumors that the Darigan Citadel had violated the treaty both it and Meridell had agreed upon. At first, no one really paid attention to it. Strangely enough, the crops began to wither and die, to the dismay of Randolph’s family. Then they spotted fire on the horizon and Lord Kass’s armies appeared with massive war machines, along with a small army of mesmerized peasants began to once again tear apart Meriacres. The night passed slowly those long hours, Randolph frightened but ready to defend his family if needed.
The following morning, those who were able to fight were summoned to fight with King Skarl. Once again, Randolph’s eldiest brothers were summoned to the drafting lists to fight for the lands of Meridell. The little lupe desired to fight alongside his brothers, but the knights who came by laughed calling him too young to fight. Begrudgingly, Randolph was forced to continue helping his parents and sisters with tending to the dying crops as the battle for Meridell ensued without him.
The fight was eventually won with Meridell as the Victor. With the aid of Lord Darigan, who had miraculously returned, Lord Kass was destroyed and the treaty with Meridell reinforced. The young lupe was eager to hear from his brothers again to see what had ensued there. To his shock, however, only two had returned. His other two eldest brothers had been slain in battle, their helmets mere remnants of what was left of them. Funerals were held for the losses of those who’d died valiantly in battle, and Randolph gave up his wish to become a knight.
A Defender of Meridell
When he was sixteen, however, he grew more and more restless , becoming more convinced that he would be doomed to farm for the rest of his life. Finally, he left Meriacres on an errand to Meridell and took the opportunity to become a squire. However, his parents refused to sign the letter of consent. They refused to lose another son from battle and insisted he go back and refuse the offer. On the brink of despair, the young adolescent bore the news to the Recruiter.
However, the recruiter showed to him an alternative form of a recruitment: a sort of secondary role more fit for peasants where he could serve as a ranger, a freelance scout of sorts for the Kingdom of Meridell. It would not be as luxurious or as rewarding as a Knight of Meridell, but it would be an opportunity all the same. Randolph accepted this role and was sworn into the services of Meridell. Given standard regulation and equipment, Randolph patrolled the borders of Meridell, from the farmlands of Meriacres to the road of Brightvale, scouting out for trouble and sorts.
Meeting Fox
On his patrol along the shores of the Maraquan Seas to the west, Randolph came across a small burlap sack, its only means of support a piece of floating driftwood. Confused by the driftwood’s design, he opened up the bag to reveal a Juma petpet! It was very sickly, malnourished and on the verge of death. Taking sympathy on the poor thing, Randolph slowly nourished it back to health. When it was finally healed up, The two had become inseparable companions. Because of his strangely vulpine features, Randolph named him Fox, and trained him to become an informant.
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie
It was on the month after his 25th birthday that it happened.
When Randolph first saw sightings of the dark clouds, it was at the Glades of Illusen, as they continued to spread, he made haste to warn King Skarl of what was happening, but already the very kingdom was beginning to be overcome with madness. He could not warn King Skarl in time before the dark clouds were upon Meridell. He was forced to escape with those subjects still strong enough to flee from the power of the Darkest Faerie into hiding. He still served as a scout, but disguised as a rogue, exchanging information with a small handful or Meridell’s defenders who chose to stay in disguise.
With the aid of Fox, he learned about the Darkest Faerie’s origins, and the only threat that seemed to stand in her way: Sir Tormund, Knight Third-Class and Lady Roberta. Using all the guile he could muster, he convinced the Meerca Brothers to aid the two heroes while also informing them that Market Town held a vast treasure that was worth millions!
Upon the defeat of the Dark Sisters, the Defenders of Meridell returned to the aid of their King, who was restored to his normal self. Being sent back to their patrol duties, Randolph was given little credit due to his low ranking status as a mere scout. He did get the attention of Squire Grayson and few other Knights, who valued his skills. After the Darkest Faerie was defeated and Altador revealed to the lands of Meridell, Randolph returned home to see his parents, bringing home half of his year’s earnings of neopoints. They had aged much since his departure, almost too old to work the fields. His brothers and sisters continued to work the farms but looked at the runt of the family with a new air. For the first time in his life, his parents were proud of what their son had become.
Meeting Sir Cairn
Even though the Darkest Faerie was defeated, there were still remnants of the darkness she’d left behind in many parts of Faerieland, including Bogshot, Shadowglen Woods, and Werelupe Forest. Even the ancient black keep hovered over Market Town, it’s shadow haunting the citizens. Now in his mid 30s, Randolph now served the king as an advanced scout, his duty reserved to keeping an eye on the small pieces of land that could still pose a threat to Meridell.
During his patrolling of Werelupe Woods, he grew concerned with strange activity by the Werelupe King. Perhaps his humiliation against Sir Tormund did not retain his determination. Sending a letter for aid to King Skarl, he received a letter from a crokabek, stating that its owner would be on his way to help. Sure enough, Sir Cairn the Kougra arrived in two days time. Though Randolph was upset at such little help, he restrained himself and took Sir Cairn into the woods to investigate the hulabaloo in Werelupe Woods.
Relationships with others:
Cairn: Is rather fatherly to Sir Cairn’s emotional needs, taking no mind whatsoever to Cairn’s excessive whining. He tries to motivate and encourage him to do more, though.
Rosemary: Is a little annoyed by the Meerca’s mischievous behavior and her stubbornness, but he tolerates her for her magical skills. He often frowns on her for pulling pranks on Sir Cairn.
Sir Cairn the Kougra
Species: Kougra
Color: Yellow
Age: 17
Birthplace: Market Town
Occupation: Knight, Third Class
Proficiencies: Lance and Shield
Loyalty: Meridell
Petpet: Poe the Crokabek
Personality: A very self-conscious Kougra. He worries greatly how others think of him and apologizes constantly, having little to no confidence in his own abilities. He does possess much more vigor and power than he gives credit for, however. He can actually fare very well in a fight, which he eats right up when praise is deserved.
Background: A blueblood coming from a long line of merchants in Market Town, Cairn was only a cub when the Black Knight was reborn from the very purple clouds that had invaded his home. He remembers very little, except that Sir Tormund and Lady Roberta were the town’s saviors, freeing them from the nightmare of the Black Knight’s outrageous taxes and protection money. The only child of his father Lord Hector, a retired Knight of Meridell who had married twice and divorced, Cairn was given a wide multitude of privileges, toys and anything the upper class neopian could love. Cairn showed little interest in friends and adventure, often finding himself isolated in his room and playing with toys, imagining himself like the fabled Sir Tormund.
That all changed when Cairn came of age. His father had a long speech with him, where it was decided that money and love alone would not ready Cairn for the business world. It required a level of discipline too. Much to Cairn’s dislike, under his father’s commands, he was therefore sent to Meridell Castle to become a Knight of Meridell. Even though his father’s title granted him the rank of Knight Third Class and he was given all the pleasures of a Defender of Meridell, Cairn couldn’t help but feel not one with the crowd. After all, he had little training in combat and was treated like a squire to the other knights, whom he felt made fun of him because of his class. Even during his training, he found himself isolated from the rest of the Knights, his only real friend a Crokabek named Poe, whom his father gave to him as a present for company. Squire Grayson he found he could talk to very easily, and even meeting Sir Tormund in person was almost a personal honor. Still, he didn’t feel like he fitted in.
Eventually, Master Torak assigned him on a mission with a letter from an Advanced Scout on their border, telling him that they were in need to suppress possible werelupe activity. Feeling intimidated, Sir Cairn shyly accepted the mission and quickly went on his way to Werelupe Woods, sending Poe ahead to inform the advanced Scout, Randolph, that help was along the way. Already so far away from what he’d called his second home, Cairn’s anxiety dragged along with him as he entered Werelupe Woods with Randolph.
Meeting with Rosemary
The werelupe woods were crawling with Werelupe patrols. They had to suppress a few of them, but they eventually found out what the commotion was all about: a Meerca druid from Illusen’s Glades had been snooping around their home. The two of them were caught snooping and were almost thrown into the cage with the Meerca, until she managed to conjure a diversion that gave the two of them enough time to break her free and flee from Werelupe Woods. Introducing herself as Rosemary, she urged the three of them that Illusen’s Glade would now be in danger once more, as the Werelupe King was plotting an attack against Meriacres and Illusen’s Glade. Cairn didn’t hear much of the details that were spoken, but he shuddered about the idea of being thrown into a battle. Despite what he felt, he continued to follow Randolph and Illusen to the Glades.
Relationships with others:
Randolph: Enjoys being around Randolph, who he sees as more of a parental figure to turn to. He likes the fact that Randolph actually doesn’t mind listening to him talk, making him feel less awkward.
Rosemary: Often upset and annoyed around Rosemary, thinking that she dislikes him for constantly pulling pranks on him. It confuses him though when Rosemary apologizes for her pranks soon after, making him wonder if she likes him in a strange way.
Rosmary the Meerca
Species: Meerca
Color: Red
Age: 24
Birthplace: Illusen’s Glade
Occupation: Druid
Proficiencies: Sword and Magic
Loyalty: Illusen the Earth Faerie
Petpet: Joan the Faellie
Personality: An upbeat and playful Meerca who loves pranks. Oftentimes, her pranks can go a little too far, and she’s often stubborn enough to argue about it. In the longrun, however, she’s a kindhearted Neopian who will apologize soon enough. Her cheerful personality makes her likeable enough, though she doesn’t see herself that way.
Background:
During the great battle for Meridell, Rosemary’s parents had fled Meridell to seek refuge with Illusen, the Earth Faerie. Illusen glady accepted them and protected other refugees who were losing their homes as Lord Kass ravaged the lands. Following Kass’s defeat, the rebuilding of Meridell ensued, but Rosemary’s parents had already settled down in the Glades long before then, giving birth to their only daughter.
Rosemary was quite an upbeat girl, often playing tag with other neopians and always winning. After all, who could outrun a meerca? As the usual child games got boring and as she got older, she found herself enjoying the concept of pranks, much to her parents displeasure. After getting into the granary and wrecking a large part of machinery, they finally stepped in and told her she needed to be disciplined. She was sent to Illusen to be properly punished, but Illusen instead took pity on the Meerca. She instead decided to channel her upbeat energies into something more productive: Rosemary was now being trained in the ways of the Faeries under Illusen’s Watch.
Even though Rosemary never lost her impish nature, she did learn a manner of respect for things and making time for pranks when it was right. In fact, Illusen even joined in on some of her pranks at times. The two of them at one point managed to see Faerieland together, where Rosemary earned Joan, a Faellie petpet for her very own.
Neopets: The Darkest Faerie
It was when Rosemary was only 14 that the Dark Clouds swirled over the Glade. With Illusen’s charm, however, the clouds were kept at bay. That was until, however, the Werelupe King invaded, seeing an opportunity to not only get back at Illusen for his earlier humiliation, but to protect his own people from the dark clouds that were swirling towards his land. Rosemary tried to defend her mentor and friend, but was outnumbered and outpowered by the pack of werelupes. She was taken into Werelupe Woods to be used as slavery and, when she could no longer work, as food. Begrudgingly, she toiled under the Werelupes until Sir Tormund and Lady Roberta managed to defeat the werelupe king. In their confusion, she plotted her own way out and managed to make it out back to the glades to find that Sir Tormund and Roberta had restored everything back to normal.
Meeting with Cairn and Randolph
Ten years following her escape, Rosemary went back to Werelupe Woods, eager to settle the score with the Werelupe King for her imprisonment. Skilled in magic far more than before, she was convinced she could play a nasty trick on the king before making her escape. Unfortunately she was caught along the way and placed in a cage. The werelupes surrounding the cage began to argue over how to eat her while interrogating her about what she knew with their plans. She eventually learned of a devious plot to get back at Tormund for humiliating their Werelupe King in battle without accepting leadership. To do it though, they were going to steal back Illusen’s charm and fight Tormund in a one on one fight between him and the Werelupe King.
Before they could reveal anything else, Sir Cairn and Randolph made it to the woods and managed to free her. While they escaped, she revealed to them the laid out plans that the Werelupes had for Sir Tormund. The three of them now run out to the Glades to repress yet another invasion from the Werelupes into Illusen’s Glade.
Relationships with others:
Cairn: Likes Cairn, though finds him too easy to play pranks on. Often times, her pranks go wrong and she eventually gives up being stubborn over it and apologizes in one way or another. Might hint at she secretly likes him.
Randolph: Often finds Randolph a bit too serious at times, and tries to get him to unwind a whole lot. Dislikes him for his modest but insincere behavior, especially towards her, thinking him rather plastic for a friend to Cairn. Often thinks of herself as a much better friend for Cairn.
