Had this theme bumping through my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ-JYgn-6-Q&list=PL-vD6rIjXrcLe0-9bgEvTNaesznd4-9Wj&index=20&t=0s
As such it made me recall the sea-bed area, a place where I (as atomic guy) and Justa (as super geon )descended into the murky depths avoiding landmines that for some strange reason has faces and when they get huffy they get puffy and EXPLODE on contact. Upon landing we'd explore the bottom area and get jumped by hungry giant bargain bin metroids and swimming over trenches to find this ugly fucker hiding in a rather obvious and conveniently shaped bolder.
Aqua Slug at first glance doesn't seem like such a fascinating beasty at least to me when I was a kid. Heck when I played the sega version he was one of the monsters I picked the least. Looking at him now, I love his design, the colors are fun, he defintely is memorable, plus he had this really silly ass attack that..upon thinking about is pretty horrifying (basically imagine being force fed pieces of himself...Also he can freeze you if you get grabbed. Did I mention how interesting his brain looks by the way? I also assumed he was the more idiotic of the band of ugly E.T kaiju. But seeing how complex his brain looks I imagine he's pretty damn smart (starting to make sense why you fight him after Beetle Master.)
Having played the Neo Geo version at long last I can say his fight isn't as smooth sailing as other bosses. Because for one if you knock him down you can't hit him as his shell stops your attack. Also the trenches as far as I know instakill if you fall off. He provides a pretty unique challenge. But those same cases of getting constantly frozen are one of the reasons why he's one of my least favorite bosses in the game. The other being Lavicus but we'll get to that minion spewing ass munch another time.

I reccommand the hottest of fire, of course giant plasma balls, huge spikes you pull out of your head, stomping, lighting bolts, hardlight beams that tie up and explode, and shooting hard light waves in the shape of your pissed off face also work to :D (all referring to the moves the player monsters can do)
You cna see it if ya squint hard enough x3
I think what's happening is that stuff gets into the system and then it grossly inflates the opponent till they explode but I assume that fluid in question really just manages to exit out because you don't seem to expode or pop for some reason, still that seems like a horrible way to go.

could be that maybe it's enough to expand them but the monster's hides are still strong enough to resist rupturing till the fluid dissolves or wears off or something. though it could really all just be nonsense given that it can cause a robot gorilla to blow up as if it were made of shiny rubber. (and yet when used on aqua slug himself in multiplayer, it doesn't effect his shell at all.)
