it's the texture of the gel medium i used to seal the drawing to the board.
i just brushed it on simply, so there is this overall texture that you're seeing.
i could put it on with more intention, as though "painting" with it. it dries clear, but the strokes would follow the shapes of the figures or objects or spatters, etc.

amazing work! you have really got my attention now.
Id love to work in the medium you use. Gouache? Is it different from watercolors? It looks different in how you are utilizing it, but google described it as pigment in water...
