Golly-gosh! It's taken me forever to start posting on what happened at BronyCon. So here we go!
My son and I rode the train to the convention on Wednesday, July 31st. this was his first adventure ever on a public-transit train and he loved it! Or he loved how he could plug his mobile phone into an electrical outlet near his seat ;))
We met
wayward_pony and
aricub at the hotel after a short taxi trip. We were early but they allowed us up into our room. It was here that we waited for
Boom to arrive as we unpacked and started sharing gifts for each other.
We got our pony-on that evening when we headed for Baltimore's Inner Harbor and entered into Build-A-Bear. They had a sale on ponies! Doodle Noodle got Cheerilee and a Psyduck while my son got a Yoshi. (I never knew BAB had a Yoshi and it is definitely cuddly)

Thursday was a fun day as panels started at 12:00 PM. Some of us attended the opening panel of how MLP G1 was far more intense than most may think. I, being the big beak I am, chimed in a lot, where applicable, and really enjoyed reliving some old memories.
Next up was getting into the Vendor Hall. This would have been a most excellent experience except for two displeasing things. The first was how, right from the start, my son saw the very obvious pony pillows that could be used for very mature purposes. He then caught a glance at a piece of art that showed Spike going down on twilight. :( Bad start and I had to spend time trying to explain to him why anyone would want to buy such things. (Later these were less obvious but the explanation was largely viewed as said products being bought out first. Not helpful for my son who is currently struggling with his sexuality.)
The other thing that made the vendor hall seem less fun was the absense of Enterplay. I always enjoyed talking to the folks who made the cards and kindly saw CWLTP as a 'Gaming Group' in which I could get cards for to donate to a local school for individuals on the spectrum.
However, aside from a typical drought in anything Spike related, the rest of the vendor hall was great! I'll touch more on it later but, primarily, I was so happy to find Lil Moon again. Lil Moon is the one who has made my Snowdrop, Scootaloo, and Rainfeather plushies. She is currently finishing up a Cozy glow plush for me so, at last, I can use my tactile abilities as a totally blind person to get a better mental visual of her. However the most impressive thing was how Ms. Moon gave some TLC to my Snowdrop. She is like magic when it comes to sewing, too! I handed Snowdrop over and we talked for about two minutes before she handed her back all good-as-new! Snowdrop needed some more fluff to support her neck and flank and, with no noticeable marks, Lil Moon made her better! She is definitely super-duper talented to so seamlessly, quite literally, be able to make Snowdrop better with not a single sign of work!
That night was great, too, because I got to share some pie with our BronyCon pal of many years, Anthony, and my son got to attend an art gathering. My time with Anthony was as you'd expect from old pals catching up while Ethan's was wonderful because people gave him strong recognition for his blossoming art talent. Thanks much to Saphy, Doodle, and wayward for making this possible as, sadly, I wasn't there due to Anthony's responsibilities to BronyCon held him up until 20 minutes before the art event.
I'll leave off here. However, as it is important, I'll drop the link for our epic version of Snowdrop with descriptive audio! It is truly a high point for CWLTP and would never have happened without the hard work of both Saphy and wayward.

Oh, yay! To be honest, I worried you had gone forever some time before I lost the last of my physical eyesight. Knowing you are still around definitely brightens my day, Neo!
The fandom is, well, the fandom. I, personally, have seen the MLP community as an extension of the Furry community. Some will not admit it but a lot of Furry characteristics are what make the Bronies what they are. Truly, I feel, it will be those MLP fans who realize they can carry on, or expand, from FiM through sites, like FA, to keep the magic of the fandom alive.
Many Bronies are artists, writers, poets, etc. You find that all here. It's just Brony became 'mainstream' as opposed to being Furry. Though, wait for it, something like "The Big Bang Theory" will come out and you'll see all sorts of people jumping on the bandwagon before bailing off as, to me, this place is one you have to remember you are talking to genuine people and how it can't just be all about you all the time.
In short, friendships have always been magic here. I'm glad I got to meet you and read your poetry. I honestly still miss it, too. :(

Yeah~! I'm still floating around! I guess I engage people more through Telegram lately than doing things like being active on this site or IB... Sorry that I've been so elusive o.o!
I've been living in Arizona as a Software Engineer since 2016, so things have been pretty hectic as I try to navigate my real adulthood |3;
I've also been trying to get back into creating things; though I haven't done poetry in a long time, I am taking a stab at Game Dev in Unity. Its coming along at its own pace, and I'm learning a lot of cool things! But maybe I'll need to take another stab at some writing... I'll let you know if something comes up~
I got pretty discouraged about MLP because the last visit I did to Bronycon felt kind of sad to me; it just didn't do anything for me like the previous visit did; so I guess I drifted away from the whole affair. I don't dislike any Brony per say, but combined with me being behind in the show too it was hard to feel invested in a lot of the things there :x I can't even remember what year that was anymore tbh. I might have to give the show another look over - I've been booting up Star Trek: Next Generation again, but its good to have a nice mix of lazy watching material
I'm happy to hear you're still doing well, and are still able to attend such things~

I'm happy to hear you found a great job in Arizona. I've heard that region is up-and-coming. Plus, if you had any allergies, it is also good for how dry the air is over being insanely humid. :)
2016 is right-smack when I lost all my sight for the last time. So this definitely corresponds with your departure and my final moments of seeing things through my own eyes. (Mind's eye still works, thankfully) :)
What sort of job do you have? I miss working in IT as a Business analyst. Right now I found work in a call center for a chain of grocery stores running from Massachussets to South Carolina. The software they use makes me able to only do so much and trying to juggle a customer, screen reader, and mental imagery of what I'm looking up is exhausting but I can do it. :) I'm currently hoping to get a job in a better support role as, well, a Business Analyst.
I know what you mean about the convention feeling 'empty'. What made it special for me was those friends I'd share time with. Seeing panels, attending events, etc. became kind of boring after a few goes and just hanging out and having fun with some great people took my priority. This is what made this year so great for me as I may have gone to a handful of panels and/or events and was more dedicated to just hanging out with the CWLTP team, and my son.
I will say I was so happy that we did meet, Neo. I always enjoyed our conversations on poetry and, now having no eyesight, I can say reading fun poetry is definitely more thought-provoking.
If you do delve back into Pony it should be based on how you felt with the show at the time you stopped watching.
Season 6 brought us Flurry Heart, the child of Shining armor and Cadence, along with lots of character growth for starlight Glimmer
Season 7, which was the first one I watched entirely blind, had some really good episodes on growing-up with the CMCs. They brought back Starswirl The Bearded, and some others, but the meeting of dash's parents and Rarity realizing she was missing out on Scootaloo growing up was quite good.
Season 8 introduced us to some really cool new non-pony characters. These being the Student Six where one is a Changeling, one is a Hippgriff, one is a Yak, one is a Griffon, one a dragon, and the last a pony. This season also had a very odd antagonist named Cozy Glow (Who I like and am getting a plushie of so I can 'see her' through touch)
Season 9 has, to me, been kind of flat. Though the build-up for a grand finale has yielded some great episodes, too. Notably 'Frienemies'. However an episode I had wanted for years did finally happen in episode 200s 'Sparkle 7' with acknowledging how Spike is considred family by Shining Armor and Twilight.

What I loved the most about Season 6 was the rise of three of the most decent male role models. Spike is finally treated as an ambassador of friendship — rather than someone for the show to dump on. Sunburst becomes a hero thanks to his extensive knowledge about spells, despite having no extraordinary powers — and he becomes practically Flurry Heart’s godfather. Thorax becomes the leader of the changelings, showing them that sharing love is what will satisfy their hunger.
Seasons 6 forward are my favorites — for building up the proper representation of boys. In past seasons, two of the most rotten episodes were “The Best Night Ever” and “Tanks for the Memories”, for how certain characters were handled. (If those characters had been shown apologizing, I could have given those episodes a pass.) Therefore, I don’t necessarily see any overall decline of writing quality — since MLP has always been prone to a rotten episode threatening to ruin my experience.
From Season 7, the Pillars of Old Equestria were half boys and half girls. This is how I wish the Mane 6 had been. Stygian was once a great male leader, the one who used to lead the Pillars — until he let bitterness get to him. But then he was redeemed like Luna. I also enjoyed the inclusion of Sunburst in helping to rescue the Pillars.
In addition, “Once Upon a Zeppelin” is wish fulfillment for all the male bronies who have wanted to befriend the Sparkles family. Star Tracker is their audience surrogate.
I watched the movie before ever watching Seasons 6 and 7. Now that I have watched those seasons, Spike feels like a full part of the team in the movie. Indeed, he acted like a big little brother for Twilight. He helped her to keep her cool, and he stayed by her side when her girlfriends had a momentary fallout with her.
Season 8 gave me the diversity I truly wanted in the cast. The only thing missing is a male alicorn. Six different races — including two boys — are now connected to the Tree of Harmony.
Season 9 gave us a great father/uncle figure working alongside Celestia and Luna to help save Equestria. Starswirl has become a great leader of friendship thanks to learning from his own #1 fan. I am also elated that Spike is now called the little brother of the Sparkle family.
With “The Summer Sun Setback”, it looks as if Twilight is truly realizing she must stop her nervous breakdowns — and delegate most responsibilities. Her dearest friends have been seriously worried for her mental health.

As for me, I didn’t jump onto any bandwagon. I didn’t become a true brony until I learned about the Student Six. Seeing two boys connected to the Tree of Harmony made all the difference.
I’m shocked how many fans see the Student Six as a spotlight-stealing squad. It’s as though the ones who are passionate about them follow the beat of a different drum. I wish one of the Mane 6 had been a stallion all along (perhaps Fluttershy, so as not to diminish too much from the girl power). But that was not the toy line Hasbro was venturing to promote.

I agree — G1 had some of the scariest enemies for a G-rated show. G4 is largely a return to the roots of G1 — except ponies now reproduce with both a mother and a father.
In “Stranger than Fan Fiction”, there was a big pillow of Daring Do tied up, at the Daring Do convention — one of those hidden adult jokes.
I’ve seen Spike shipped with Twilight, and I was always concerned it might count as incest.m
As for Cozy Glow, I’m not holding my breath. It seems you’ll have to imagine a development that will not occur in the show. I do think it’s a waste of a cute character design. If she were to reform, she and Starlight could make a tag team for manipulating enemies.

*Shrugs* You probably already saw it, but I did write my own head canon for Cozy Glow about a year ago. I called it, simply, "Glimmer & Glow. I explored aspects of Starlight with Cozy to make, what felt to me, a logical explanation for her being a villain without a true back story. She's, sadly as of now, a villain who is "Evil to be evil.". :(
Oh, boy... So "Stranger Than fanfiction" did show one of those pillows? Nice one by the artists to poke at the fandom. ;)
I did read about G1's 'magical reproduction'. I suppose, for having just girl ponies at Paradise Estate, the only explanation for kids would be Spike and, well, that would be very weird. So, unless they decided to explore the Amazon concept, making magical duplicates of themselves seemed most logical without touching on the whole "Where do babies come from?". *Shrugs*
I'm behind on messages but will get back to yours soon. It's been a rough work week. :(

Yes, I noticed your headcanon. What is to become of the three frenemies is anyone’s guess. There may be a three-way battle with both them and Grogar.
Sometimes people have a sympathetic reason during their start of darkness. But past a certain point, it doesn’t matter anymore. It Starlight had rejected Twilight’s offer of friendship, then that would probably have been the moral event horizon.

I think Cozy hasn't had quite that chance afforded to her. Plus, honestly, how didn't anyone ever noticed she was sending letters to Tartarus? You'd have to really be turning a blind eye if a kid is able to figure out how to reach a criminal who is locked inside a massive door leading into a scary and forbidden place.
I think her banishment seemed way too conveniently quick, too. I wouldn't be surprised if Princess Celestia, in her odd teaching methods, actually coaxed Cozy Glow into setting herself up to lure out Grogar so she could get Twilight set up to get rid of all known villains remaining in-and-around Equestria.

What’s really creepy is that Cozy didn’t feel afraid of Tartarus at all — seeing it as a chance to make new cronies. It got me to thinking, some hardened criminals may sometimes have similar feelings toward prison. Cozy is probably the most amusing of the villains — since her only powers are her brainpower and manipulative manners (in addition to her wings as a pegasus).
One of my own pony heroes has similar intelligence to Cozy — but actually uses it for friendship.
