In my experience, those mental hang ups are actually more common then we tend to think.
there seems to be this repressed thinking in society (which is probably encouraged by social media, and societal pressures)
that any kind of mental illness, or mental trauma is an outlier, confined or condemned to only a handful of people, or “types” of people (cause lazy idiots, and biggots and assholes always love to generalize entire populations)
and that they are not the norm. But in reality, everyone deals with some from of this or another
inadequacy, loneliness, mental health issues, body image, autism, fear, trauma, angst, pain, loss, what have you everyone feels them, everyone suffers in silence , thinking they are alone because our society punishes and discourages imperfection, or contamination as it were...
we are conditioned to think and believe we are dealing with these things alone, and we are taught to speak up is bad because it puts us in the out group, the group to fear and question, because even the slightest hint that something is not perfect is seen as a imperfection or threat.
that said, even if many people are dealing with these same issues, that doesn't mean they are any less important to you, you are the person suffering them, that makes them your priority
and it’s not selfish or weak to think of ones self and ones mental health first.
