CP Rail 1512 rattles over the Turners Crossroad crossing in Golden Valley, MN sometime in the spring of 1991.
I converted the image to Black and White since I was dissatisfied with the colour of the original. No matter what I tweaked the image looked bad.
This GP9 spent most of its whole life from 1955 on the CP, first as #8510 and then as #1512. This was the CP's first shipment of GP9's and would eventually grow to a roster of 200 strong. It was rebuilt during the 1980s when a 16-645c prime mover was installed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_645 This engine is also clearly set up as a light road switcher and is geared for a 35mph maximum speed unlike the more typical 65mph.

Below you can see the unique end to the long hood on this engine. It houses extra-large sand storage.

It is possible it may also have been ir still has a APU. many of the ones in the north east have them. they would start the APU before shutting down the Primary. this would keep power running and coolant warm so they could start the primary much easier in sub zero temps. and use much less fuel then keeping the Primary running all the time.
Yep, that's the ones. The GE's don't have near the longevity that the comparable EMD's have. They were all made with aluminum wiring, and it's all gone bad, so they're being retired instead of rewired. I'll be really upset if someone doesn't go to Waycross and buy one or two to at least put on display!
