Excerpt from the journal of Dante Heartbane, a vampire, age 12:

"Jabber has this weird thing for the lake. I think she might have drowned in it. Whatever the reason, she always makes me go down there with her. She knows I am uncomfortable around water, being as the running variety makes me start falling apart, but if I don't go with her, she gets all mopey and won't do anything with me. One time, she took the mopey thing so far that she went and found real honest to blood iron chains and she spent the next day rattling them outside the cabin while I tried to sleep.

You know how ghosts are. I think she forgave me for the squirrel thing but I'm not sure she's completely over it yet. I'm watching her."
